I started Depo at 16 to prevent pregnancy because every pill I tried made me sick and realized it stopped my period. Every Doctor has their own opinon of whether or not its safe to not have a period. Some say its not natural to have one (a period) every month cause 200 years ago we didn't (i actually had a doc tell me that, that's not my stupid idea), while others says its the only way to cleanse our bodies blah blah blah. I've had them and not had them, both seem fine. I prefer not to, less mess and I didn't realize how much it cost to have a period until I started having them on the regular again. I was told its okay to trick your body into thinking its pregnant (which is what I was told Depo does) because before BC women stayed pregnant most of the time anyway- now that I think about it that actually sounds kinda sexist and having a period all the time is not healthy for our bodies. I'm not really sure what to believe. Like I said I've done both and prefer not to menstrate. The only down side to Depo I found is that when I came off of it I bleed for 30 days straight each time and it took a bit of work to get pregnant because it can take up to 18 months to wear off and my periods were not regular until then but I've had friends who still menstrated, got pregnant right away and never had these 'issues'. But I would recommend it for someone with cramps. It really helped mine. No period, no cramps. And as far as the comment another member made about putting chemicals into your body that is the silliest thing I've heard, alot of the pills on the market are stronger than Depo.
