I has essentially this, described to me by the doctor as a very thick uterine lining, which simply wasn't shedding with my period. I just did a yahoo search on Adenomyosis and found a good description on the Mayo clinic site as well as an organization specifically for this. They explain that a hystorectomy is probably advisable in only 10% of cases.
In my own case I put on a hormone which made me hyper emotional, I was getting weepy over everything. It hadn't really helped anyway. I had a D&C and an ablation. That conpletely resolved the problem and I've been very happy I had it done. That business of bleeding constantly was the pits.
I couldn't find anything with diet or other means to deal with this. The doctor said she thought it was the result of several years of very high stress.
