There has to be a maturity in understanding
that there are different cultures. There are
no value judgements, there is difference.
To think that the 'morality' outside of your
front door is 'global' is to make a very
parochial error.
I was born into a culture in which we had
arranged marriages, and my generation was
sort of allowed to choose..(and chose wrong
of course, since my generation is the 'divorce'
generation)...
because of that, I can understand people
who come from cultures where arranged
marriages are still practised, and understand
the value of it.
I suppose if I didn't have familiarity with it
I might find it like 'slavery', so could understand
the knee jerk reaction of someone who is
not accustomed to it.
But the attacks, that attitude of you are wrong
I am right, that is what soured the thread.
There were very few 'more information' posts,
most were attacks.
