I am 4o yrs old and diagnosed with fibrocystic breast disease ten years ago. I had two large lumps removed ten years ago that were painful but not too bad. Recently (over past 6 months) my breasts started to ache, then they started to burn, have greenish discharge from nipples, go up a bra size and keep me awake alllll nite! I went to my doctor three weeks ago who examined me and ordered an ultrasound which showed that I was full of cysts that were hemorraging and bleeding into each other. I also had my hormone levels and thyroid drawn and they were in normal limits. Then I had that ever loving mammogram done (ouchy) that showed I had dense breasts. She gave me pain pills to sleep at nite and then muscle relaxers to take for the upper back pain I was also having (dont know why). She also referred me to a breast surgeon that I will call Dr. . Mind you, I am in so much pain I have to hold my breasts to even walk up stairs. I go see Dr. expecting to get some answers. He uses a ultrasound dobler and rubs it on the outter side of my right breast and shows me the cysts in THAT area. I tried to tell him where my pain was at but he didnt examine me or listen at all. I told him I had green discharge and he said "Im not worried until its red" then he said, "here is what I want you to do, I want you to cut your caffiene out of your diet (which I had done a year ago) I also want you to wear a sports bra (which I have always done) and take ibuprophen three times a day (which my other doctor said NOT to do because of the bleeding in my breasts) and you come back to me when you have a lump"........NICE HUH? I then explained to him my job and told him I was having a hard time working because of the pain and could not take pain meds while at work, and he offerred me pain patches to put on my breast. I told him I didnt want anymore pain meds, I wanted suggestions. He said "do what I told you to do and come back when you have a lump" Needless to say, I left his office crying. I am also contacting my insurance company as I refuse to pay for that 5 minute $300 visit (he was a specialist ). Oh and also, he told me what I was going thru was NORMAL and it was a woman thing..so, if anyone else out there is having this NORMAL experience with bleeding breast cysts and green discharge, awful pain, get in touch with me and give me some pointers. In the mean time my nice doctor is working on other options for me..have a great day all!
