We dont generally test for HPV here in UK , we jsut fo for regular pap tests, every three years with NHS , three years being the time it would take for anything to develop, if when you have a smear test here and pre cancerous cells are detected which they were with me ! (it was my first smear test , but i should have been attending them sooner than the age i was , so its important to go at the age they FIRST tell you to attend) I had CN2 and they did a "col" and a little biopsy and i had the cells removed by a heated wire . I watched the whole process on the screen, very interesting, a solution like vinegar is applied it turns the affected area white (stings a little) and they are burnt off... (that dosent hurt ...but i wwas nervous and some people can feel a little nauseus or faint afterwards but thats normal. It was in two areas of my cervix.

After the treatment, its vital you dont have sex AT ALL for the weeks they advise you not to , a scab forms over the area treated and that scab comes away ...you are told to look for that .

If a person has had treatment you are then told to come and have a pap test every ONE year for three years after the treatment.

If all is ok and no more abnormal pap tests you then go back to three yearly pap tests as i did ...im fine now.

But since i had PID (unrelated to the above) i take a private test yearly , its called a failsafe smear and i asked for a pelivic examination while the dr did this . It was very reasurring . Im fine .

I wouldnt worry too much about hearing this HPV word. We dont take notice of it here , we just attend regular PAP test . All women, any woman of any race or nationality can have an abnormal pap test ...even when they are married or just have had ONE partner (the husband). Millioons of womens lives are saved each year in UK by attending these regular checks .. if anything is found its NOT cancer!! it just means they are going to treat this at the very very early stage to PREVENT and possible problems in the future ...cancer does not develop overnight . Just attend the pap tests , try to relax and dont worry ...your other symptoms could be due to anxiety i lost a dramatic amount of weight when i had the letter to atttend treatment through fear , its natural to feel like that . Please try to keep it in prespective and not let fear take hold .
You will be fine . Regards , catherine x
