Again, sweating has nothing to do with weight loss. Burning calories produces heat, and precipitation is needed to cool the body off.
Most likely your mom had little muscle when she started exercising, and is gaining muscle in this process. Recovery is a big factor in this, Exercising once a week will provide recovery time for your muscles to expand and gain, Exercising every day or every other day will provide weight loss.
