Let me tell you from experience that birth control CAN IN FACT make your hair fall out! Depo Provera made my hair start falling out in clumps to the point that I started to develop bald spots at the age of 21! It took several years of being off of it for my hair to start growing back and my bald spots are finally gone, although my hair is still really thin.
Here are some things to help strengthen and grow hair...
Take multi-vitamins
Get plenty of vitamin D, E, and protien
Drink a LOT of water - it helps prevent breakage
Avoid hair products with alcohol which will dry and damage
Avoid excessive sun on your hair
Use light-weight conditioner after you shampoo
Keep your hair clean - dirty and clogged scalp poors will decrease hair growth
Do not brush or comb wet hair - dry it first
Do not color or perm weak or damaged hair
Try not to pull your hair back in tight pony tails or put tension on the hair
Scalp massages are said to help with blood circulation and hair growth
Do not comb or brush hair with products in it that make it hard/brittle
Also, remember that it is normal to loose about 40 hairs a day (or so they say). If you don't wash your hair for two days, expect twice as much hair to come out in the shower then if you showered once a day. Showering is when you loose the most hair, not during every day activity.
Stay healthy, hydrated, and keep stress levels as low as possible. The more unhealthy or stressed you are, the more your hair will fall out.
Hair growth products like Rogain do work, but if you stop taking it, your hair returns to it's original state.
Changes in hormones can cause hair loss or even the opposite.
