Hi, I am experiencing similar symptoms to many of you. I am 47 and until february of this year my periods were pretty run of the mill, very heavy and clotting but predictable and lasting no more than 7 days.

Then I missed a period and freaked that I was pregnant, took 2 tests, both negative - prayed for my period to start...be careful what you wish for!..It started on 6th March and just went on for ever..went to see my Doctor at end of March as was due to travel abroad in April and wanted to check that I didn't have a big problem..he said I would be fine to go on holiday so went in April, still bleeding moderately, sometimes pink and watery other days bright red with clots and fibrous bits (sorry if tmi).

On 7th April I hemmoraghed whilst in a restaurant and Dr was called..he rushed me to hospital where I was placed on a drip and after having many blood tests and an internal ultrasound was put on progesterone (400mg) for 10 days and merthergine to try and stem the bleeding. I was allowed to fly home on 11th april and told to see gp after I finished the progesterone (was bleeding even on this, but lighter) My Dr did a cervical smeer (normal)and I was sent to see a gyni (had to go private as nhs was giving me a 6 week wait and my doctor had said I needed to see someone urgently.(luckily had ppp)

On 25th April had more blood tests for everything from diabeties to thyriod plus usual hormones. My blood count was now at 8 (should be 12- 16), was told to take iron tablets (ferrous sulphate 200mg) every day. Also had scan (external this time) all seemed ok except for enlarged womb and couldn't find left ovary (nor could Spanish gyni), but Dr's not worried about this - even though have pain on left side where I think my ovary would be.

On 8th May had hysteroscopy and D and C, endometrial lining sent for tests. Told 2nd June all normal, told should be ok. Started bleeding again (black blood) on 7th June, went to Dr. told I had a womb infection probably from op. put on 3 kinds of antibiotics which cured the black blood and since 14th june have gone back to constant bleeding, flooding and clots one day lighter and bright red the next, sometimes 3 or 4 different colours and clots/light/spotting flooding all on one day..it's driving me nuts. My Gyni now on holiday until next week (8th July) so am just trying to cope until then......
