Hi! I'm new here! I'm 44, today actually, its my birthday............3 days ago my doctor confirmed that I am having the menopause. I wasn't shocked, I guessed that I was due to having the symptoms (hot flushes, missing periods, tired all the time etc etc) for the past 2 and a half years. Don't know why its happened to me early and neither does he. It just is. Thankfully I have 2 children (teenagers) and didn't plan to have anymore. My Doctor has referred me for a bone density scan and in the mean time I have upped my calcium intake. I do not want to take HRT as I want to let nature take its course, I shall be taking extra care of myself though. The good thing is that my periods are practically non existent now (last one May 10th this year) and only 3 in past 18 months or so. Heard somewhere that when we go a full 12 months without a period then we have finished the menopause? Hope I get to next May without one then cos maybe the HF's will stop, they the worst part for me really, they leave me feeling exhausted, although in the last fortnight they have reduced somewhat. I feel quite jittery a lot but have always been a bit that way even before this menopause lark, must cut down on coffee for sure! Now that I've finally got my official diagnosis I feel more focused re getting through the rest of the menopause and getting/keeping healthy.
