Hey! I also am working towards losing about 40 pounds... my plan is simply- less calories and more workout...haven't tried any diet pills, trying to do it all naturally...
I started about two months ago and have lost 22 pounds...and i am really bad about going and working out so if you stick to the workout plan i'm sure you can lose more faster!
Also making sure you drink plenty of water and no pop helps incredibly!

And if you must drink pop, drink diet and very little!
