I lost 11 pounds from december 08-april 09; I joined the gym at my school, and even made a special calendar that I put stickers on when I actually went to the gym. Childish, I know, but a reward system that isn't food really motivated me to exercise--I wanted to gain my sticker each day. I also didnt exercise strictly to lose weight, I just wanted to maintain myself. I noticed after about the second week that my metabolism really jumped up, as I was always hungry.

I haven't really restricted my foods, I just take everything in moderation. I make sure that with my dinners especially, that any meat I have is no larger than the size of a deck of cards, and roughly 2/3 of my plate are steamed veggies. I think we put too much pressure on ourselves to lose weight; we set our goals too high. Instead, start low and praise yourself; if you lose one pound in a week, feel happy about it and keep doing what you're doing. The first part in feeling good about yourself is to be your best support system. Whether you lose 1 pound, 10 pounds, or 100 pounds, any loss is better than a gain.
