Default What to do about chronic hives? Causes??

My husband started itching almost 6 months ago. He thought the cleaners had changed their laundry detergent as he has had break outs from this before. A few weeks later I started itching. My itch was concentrated at the top of my legs, making me think that maybe I was allergic to the elastic in my underwear. The hives quickly spread over most of my body (except for my face). I first went to the dermatologist and his diagnosis was hives. Gave me Allegra and told me to see my allergist if my condition didn't improve. Well, it didn't improve but continually got worse. I went to my GP and he gave me another medicine to try...XYZAL. No change. I then went to the allergist. They did the allergy skin test and nothing really showed up. He put doubled my Allegra to twice a day and added Hydroxizine. I started out taking 10mg at night and progressed to 50 mg. At first it made me very sleepy but now I am waking up around 3:00 in the morning and it's worn off. He has also added Zantac twice a day. We have taken two round of steroids which helped. No more itching...until steriods were stopped and wore off. Does anyone have any clues?? Suggestions??? We have been racking our brains trying to figure out what it could be. Viral infection???? We are having our house tested soon but we were on vacation last month and the itching was even worse while we were there.

Personally I would consult a professional dermatologist before taking the words of an internet diagnosis.

Hives is a condition that is very difficult to pinpoint a cause to because the exact stimulation that creates the symptom can be so minimal. Your dermatologist will have much experience dealing with the condition but it may take awhile to find the exact cause and treatment.

but unfortunately this is not a money making deal for many government agencies as well as drug making companies so they rather not discuss about these findings.
Another extremely common reason for no publication is the research is not only not replicable but it does not work. It happens a lot, especially with alternative medicine.

None of any health problem is idiopathic almost all of the modern age disease are caused by some reasons and mostly it is chronic dehydration.
That is quite a huge claim, and huge claims need to be supplied by huge evidence. Mere words are not evidence. Idiopathic conditions are real, they are a major problem in medicine and they are a contributing factor to the countless millions of researchers doing hard work in laboratories across the globe.

Acid reflux occurs when stomach does not have enough water to break down the food so it produces more and more acid to dissolve food. This is another topic and i will not go into details here.
Just remember taking antacid or PPI ( proton pump inhibitors ) is the worst thing you can do to your body.Try to avoid them as much as possible.
No it does not. Acid reflux can be caused by many medical reasons, not just water related ones. PPIs are a godsend to the medical world, the molecular mechanisms of them completely obliterate the common OTC antacid like Tums and Rolaids therefore far surpass the effectiveness of calcium carbonate tablets. There simply is no competition. Researchers will argue with great detail and consistency that PPIs are the most effect pharmaceutical to combat acid increases in the stomach.

Quercetin is a very good supplement works as a natural anti-histamine without any side effects and also helps with overall health.
It is also not FDA approved. Researchers have yet to find any reliable clinical benefit or danger from this flavonol.

Increasing water intake, if you do choose to do this, will not harm you. However drinking 8 cups a day is not necessary when the average consumption of fruits and veggies in a daily diet will replenish a huge majority of water that is lost through perspiration, urine, and breathing.
There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.

    Hi,

I must say you have to consult with some professional & senior dermatologist, who will let you know about the main reason for itching.
