Default Help, Nickel alergies but looking at getting a tattoo

Hi so I have a problem and im hoping to get some advice.
I'm highly alergic to nickel. I used to work at a jewelry store and my arms began to break out to the point that I was unable to move them and I was in serious pain. Long story short the nickel was airborn. I both touched it and had to deal with it in the air. After being tested I came out to be a 2.5 out of 3 on the "alergie" scale. That means that I break out instantly or two weeks after being exposed.
So heres my problem. I am looking at getting a tattoo but with my aleriges I am hesitant to get one. I did speak to my dermatologist who suggested not to until researching.
So I figured Id also try to find others who have the same issue and have gotten a tattoo.
Does anyone have any advice or are also alergic to Nickel and have a tattoo?

I have a sensitivity to nickel. I won't break out in hives but if I wear jewelry that contains nickel, the area surrounding it will become red and puffy and will itch. This includes earrings (and it sucks when your piercings itch!). I got a tattoo without ever knowing that the ink might contain nickel.

The majority of my (small) tattoo is black ink, which I did not have a reaction to. There is some also yellow, blue, and green used in a flower, which healed more slowly than the rest. It does not appear terribly disfigured nor did it cause a rash, although occasionally it itches. I hadn't thought that it might be due to the nickel in the dyes, but it might be! If my tattoo is itchy sometimes because of a nickel sensitivity I'd hesitate to say it's ok for you to go get one without a lot of testing first.

I'd advise sticking to black ink if you can, and asking the tattoo artist to put a test spot into your skin for each of the colors you choose to use in the tattoo. If you have no reaction to the test spots, the tattoo should be fine. Good luck!

I to am allergic to nickel as well as other low quality metal. I do wear a Ball chain necklace that is pure nickel. I also had a belt that the buckle would make my stomach break out when it touched it. That was years ago though and haven't had much of a problem since.

I to am looking into getting a tattoo soon but I don't think it will cause me any problems since I'm not SUPER sensitive to it as others. I'd just be careful really. You never know how your body may react to something like that and it could cause some problems if you did react to it.
