Default Poison Ivy, how I loathe you!

I have poison ivy for the 2nd time in my life. The first time I caught it was after my fiance did yard work for someone and I hugged him, I ended up with poison ivy on the inner (tender area) part of the right fore-arm. This time, my cat brought it in on his fur. However, instead of one spot....I have it in three, thankfully the severity varies. I have it on my left inner (tender area) fore-arm, which is the worst care. The area covered in ivy is a little bigger than a quarter but the blisters don't help it much. :\ To the left of my belly button, its spread out about as wide as a palm. (They look like little islands on my tummy) AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, the inner part of my right fore-arm...again.

Anyone know any good home remedies? The ones I keep finding online are kinda iffy in details. The rash has already turned into oozing blisters so I'm LONG past the stage of getting the oil off of my skin before it causes a rash.

My daughter (age 10) just had this from summer camp. Calamine is good as over the counter but they prescribed her a cream called Mometasone Furoate Cream and that really helped her heal quick. Some people are really sensitive to the poison ivy and oak....... I'm sorry, it is painful

I have calagel, but I don't feel as though its effective. The ivy on my tummy is the only one that is in need of itching or the relief of it AND thats only because I can't not walk around the house without a shirt on so that my cloths don't irritate it more.

Oh, sorry Raina - Poison Ivy SUCKS! I've had it once in my life and it was terrible...

Calamine lotion (sorry if I spelled that wrong).. and soaking the irrated spots once or twice a day in salk water (epsom salt) will help sooth the pain/itch as best I know.

Also, if your spots are weeping, you'll want to wrap them loosely so it doesn't spread, but if there's no weeping, then no need to wrap, the air will help clear it up.

I've been told that blowing hot air on the spots with a hair dryer on HOT for a while will relieve the pain for up to a few hours - but I never tried it so I don't know if that really works or not!

I've read on numberious Posion Ivy websites that the weeping from the poison ivy doesn't cause you to get more poison ivy seeing as how whats bveing wept is nothing more than your body defense system in play. I'm gonna see if I can't get Calamine lotion later on today, I'm tired of seeing if the calagel. <3

could be with the weeping - I've just always told it should be wrapped - old wives tale maybe? If anything it keeps the body goo your'e seeping from getting on your clothes and anything else you rub against lol!

Hope it heals up soon! Its a miserable feeling!

My god. I had poison ivy once, and it started from somewhere near my ankle and spread ALL OVER MY BODY. It lasted a good 2 months, over summer vacation when I was in high school. Worst dang summer of my LIFE.

I went to the doctor of course, at the beginning, and got prescribed a cream that did NOTHING other than possibly SPREAD the thing!

When I was completely covered in blisters 2 months later, I went back to the doc and got some oral medicine... The poison ivy was gone the next day. Gee thanks docs, for waiting so long to give me something that works.

Anyhoo. I don't trust creams because of this.

Wow! And I'm sitting here complaining about these three spots. I can't spread it anymore, there is no more of the urushiol oil on my skin anymore, I haven't touched my cat since I caught it from him and I plan on giving him a bath soon, which he is NOT going to like, Lol. I read a story where this woman's husband caught it and she told him there was medicine in the bathroom for it and she goes to check up on him and hes rubbing vagisil cream on it! She liked to had died laughing! The ivy rash on my tummy looks more like psoriasis now than anything else. I keep forgetting I even have poison ivy on my right arm because its such a small case. It doesn't itch and hasn't near as bad blisters as my left arm. I try not to let my fiance see the inner side of my left arm or my tummy, he thinks its 'gross looking'.

Its almost over with week one, hopefully this junk will be gone before the end of week 2!

So, what I seem to have found the MOST effective in making the poison ivy look less horrible, was rubbing alcohol pads. I just decided to put one under my bandages for about an hour and a half and once my fiance came home (with calamine lotion) he told me to take off my bandages and when I did, I was shocked to see how big of an improvement I saw! Now all I need are more alcohol pads and I could very well be rid of it earlier than expected!
