I have severe allergies also. I recently quit getting my allergy shots after having them on and off for 30 years.
I have a neti and tired it 3 times but felt like I was drowning. Now I'm using Nasonex and I can't taste anything, I have severe heartburn all the time and headaches. I think I'll try the Neti again. |

They have been used in all over the world for decades!
We are such a "pill popping" society that we feel that's the easiest and best answer....wrong! ONe important thing to remember when using a Neti Pot (I have one and use it alot) is to ALWAYS add a bit of salt to your water. If you don't, you will irritate the nasal passages. Remember: Tears contain salt and so should anything you put in the sinuses. My Neti Pot holds about six ounces of water and I add about a half to three quarters of a teaspoon of salt to it. I have all but eliminated the need for antihistamines. It's great! |

Actually, it's believed to have originated in India about 1000 years ago. It spread from there.
And it's not only good for allergies. I first used one in 2007. My dad had been using one for about 5 years at that point. He bought me one after I came home early one night from the bar. I was gone maybe thirty minutes and something was telling me to get home straight away. First time in 5 years I didn't get the flu shot and I ended up getting the flu. The next day my dad came home with a brand new one for me. It was weird. Whoever came up with the idea of putting baking soda and salt mixture in water and douching your nose is a genius! Yes. The Neti Pot is a nasal douche. It says so in the instructions. Used it once and everything had cleared up the next day. I wish I still had it. I need to get to a CVS or Walgreen's and get a new one (less than $20). By keeping your sinuses and nasal cavities cleaned out, you're not breathing in the junk that's sitting there that made you sick in the first place. OG
