    Default Cigarette Smoke!

When I was a child, my parents used to smoke. (I've also been told my Mom smoked with me in the womb for a short period of time.) Some of my Ex boyfriends smoked and it never bothered me. However, I wonder if my tolerance to it is dropping....

My fiance smokes as does his room-mate and I'm obviously a non-smoker. I've found it increasingly harder to breath over time when their smoking (even if its just one and then the other).

    So my questions are:
    A) Can you become irrtated by cigarette smoke with exposure over time?
    B) If 'Yes' to question A, what the fudge should I do? **Considering quitting is tough as nails apparently**

I'm a smoker that doesn't want to be, wonder how many people really feel like that?

    Anyway

Have you checked if your Asthmatic?

Secondly, get him to google E cigarettes, I just got them they are legal I think in America, not sure but not in Australia due to the fact kids can afford them... They basically charge through the computer, and blow out smoke, give the nig.... in-take, no chemicals though and help you give up.. I've tried them and they are great, have to get my mind around it now that's all....

In the meantime, they have to smoke OUTSIDE, ...... you are important as well.

I didn't really stop to think about it until I woke up earlier because I had a hard time breathing (along with a lil stomach pain from my monthly gift) and had subconsciously covered my head up trying to avoid the smoke in my sleep. I believe hes tried that and it didn't help. He'd say things like, "It helps a litle, but I need real nicotine." and so he'd just go buy the real-deals. There are also times where I'd hint at trying again to quit smoking and he'd give me the "I'll quick when I feel like quitting." . That kind of response makes me so mad! I'm the one trying to give you the motivation to live a healthier lifestyle for both you AND me. (I've read that 2nd hand smoke is just the same as having the cigarette in your mouth and I do not enjoy that fact one little bit.)

Ok so he is addicted and NOT ready to give up It is real nicotine...

He's addicted, when you say quit and he says when I am ready been there done that, we all do, we love the ahhh of it, but we hate the we have to have them, or we can't function, it's a catch 22...

NO ONE can give up until they are ready...

What's important is how it affects you, as NO ONE has the right to cause problems for you.. You can't make him give up sweet, so don't get mad, you can't motivate a smoker to stop, you can suggest money, finances, that type of motivation, ie) Imagine $10 a pack, $70 a week, nearly $300 a month, $3600 a year, there's your new motorbike for example but smokers can't tolerate, I'm trying to help give up, nag, etc, they smoke more.

They rebel, they get stressed and want another one.

2nd hand smoke is not good, again, all I can say is they HAVE TO respect you, see how I did CAPITALS? And smoke as much as they want, OUTSIDE, your important..

You can't make him do anything sweet... It's when he is ready, try the $$$$ an his passions

A: Absolutely. It is called 2nd hand smoking. You are being exposed to all the same noxious chemicals that an actual smoker is and it can build up to carcinogenic levels.

B: Need to keep yourself away from the smoke as much as possible. You can also go to a doctor to get your breathing checked out to make sure nothing has developed to cause your difficulty in breathing.

I used to smoke very heavily, like 4 - 4 1/2 packs a day. I started when I was 9 and it started out as about half a pack a day. By the time I was 14, I was up to 2 packs a day- even with going to school. By the time I hit 17, 4 packs a day until October 2, 2006. I quit and it was the hardest thing I'll ever have to do. Nicotine in the USA should be outlawed in my opinion. I've been a drug addict in my younger years and everything else was simple to quit, even black tar heroine. Yes it was tough, but not as tough as nicotine. The tobacco companies breed specific plants to produce more nicotine because as people quit their profits dwindle. That got me mad, extremely mad and set the stage for me to stop. It still angers me that they would increase the nicotine content to get new smokers addicted even faster than before.

Your chest is hurting just like a smokers chest hurts, because you are taking in the same chemicals. Personally, I'd get away from it and go see a doctor to make sure there isn't something going on with the symptoms you are having. Smoking kills, I'm 46 with the lungs of a 70 year old- came straight from my doctor's mouth. He estimated I might live to see 55 or 60 at the most. Not good news for me, huh? And to top it all off, I have an 11 yr old son who needs me around to help him when he becomes an adult. Knowing what I know and seeing my son grow up only lets me know I don't have very long with him in the grand scheme of things.
Don't walk away from it, RUN away from it.

    Hey Mark 2010 thread

Your Doctor probably told you the truth however it's also scare tactics, you gave up some 5 years ago now, it takes 10 years to repair although emphysema may not ever be cured, you have a great chance to live a long life...

I think they should cut subsidies to the tobacco growers. WC, I'm joking with you!!! Did you think I was going to let that one go???

Seriously, I think the growers are in a bad spot. The land they grow tobacco on is pretty bad. When I lived in Tennessee, we had a crop of tobacco, 28 acres to be exact. There is good money to be made growing it or they wouldn't be growing it. The land was pretty much worthless for other crops like soybeans or corn. Just too hilly and rocky. Tobacco is so labor intensive, oh, it's a nightmare as far as labor. When all is said and done, the farmers get the short end of the stick. I happen to be the Grandson of farmers. My Father in law is a big farmer here in Missouri. He isn't making a fortune in farming and making less each year. The corporate farmers who have deep pockets are the ones getting rich, same old group of people. The ones who own all the chicken, turkey, beef and pork plants. I know this to be true, I'm in it too, to some degree. I know how much my FIL makes from his crops and most would call it slave wages. All of his money is tied up in equipment, seed, land and fuel for the equipment. If he wasn't a financial genius, I'd wonder how he made any profit at all! I know I had thought about farming, but 3000 acres would just barely make the payments and forget food and a house. It's a no win game for farmers without subsidies.
Don't blame the farmers, they are only filling the wants and desires of the tobacco companies. The tobacco companies are the ones the govt is bailing out and making a huge profit while smokers die off. I'm wondering if any execs of those companies smoke and if their building is a smoke free environment? Enquiring minds Want to know- Is their insurance higher there than at any other company?

Maybe CW, but when your child asks why you are trying to kill yourself one cigarette at a time, it tears your heart out. That's exactly why I quit.
Might be a 2010 post, but still revelent today. A scare tactic? I watched my own father die of lung cancer due to smoking all of his life. He was 6' 5" and weighed 85 lbs when he died. It wasn't fun watching him push the morphine button on his IV constantly for the pain. I Had to quit for myself so I could watch my son grow up. Cigarettes should be treated like any other drug... illegal. But sadly it won't happen because of the tax revenue that's collected on it.
Don't take this post as aggressive, as it's certainly not intended that way. I'm only saying this in a friendly tone and mean no harm at all. It just makes me sad to see loved ones die from something that could be prevented.
