Tip of the Month Keeping your smile bright and white will help boost anyone's confidence. Here are some tips to preventing teeth staining and decay.
Avoid colored food and drinks when possible. Things like tomato sauce, Pepsi, red wine, coffee, tea, cigarrettes, and candy containing food coloring will stain your teeth over just a short period of time.If you insist on consuming things that stain your teeth, it will help greatly if you brush your teeth immediately after. It is especially important to brush your teeth before bed so there isn't anything sitting on your teeth that could stain them.Brushing regularly with a good toothpaste will help to prevent tartar build up and stains.Be sure to floss too! Any place that you allow plaque to build up, can end up several shades lighter then the rest of your teeth, leaving bright spots.Try to avoid consuming extremely acidic food and drinks. The acid eats away the enamel on your teeth making them more vulnerable to staining and decay. Soda pop is extremely harsh on tooth enamel!
Whitening products and procedures can be very effective for most people, but may have little effect for others. Keep this in mind if you decide to get "Zoom Whitening". Staining from use of antibiotics is not reversable. Also keep in mind that whitening your teeth could potentially cause permanent tooth sensitivity although it is usually temporary. Another warning is to be cautious when using home bleaching kits. Try to avoid getting the bleach on your gums as this can cause open sores and discomfort.
If done carefully and correctly, bleaching can definately improve your smile. Just remember that after bleaching, your teeth are really susceptable to staining so it's very important to watch what you eat! Question of the Month I recently heard a really good question asked on a television show. I thought it was really interesting so I did my own research on it. I discovered that a LOT of people ask this question on the internet.
Q. Why does my belly button smell?
A. This may not be a problem for everyone, but it seems to be for many. A lot of people have accepted this as normal when it actually isn't. The smell comes from bacteria and fungi growing in your belly button. It can be worse for people who wear belly button jewelry or those who do not wash the area regularly with soap and water.
I am not a doctor so this is just what I have learned from my own research. There are a few ways you can deal with this. The safest being to use warm water with a small amount of salt in it. Use just enough salt to give it a salty taste. Swab gently with a Q-Tip and rinse thoroughly after. After a few days of treatment, you should see improvement. The other option, if that does not work, is to see the doctor for a prescription antibacterial cream. There is some debate on whether or not to use things such as Betadine and Neosporin. I would recommend asking a doctor first. Definately do not put alcohol in your belly button. It is way too harsh and drying. Sorry for the delay!
