Default Hair Advice?!

I have naturally thin hair (that's an understatement)--anyways, for the past year I've been rocking the "bob" haircut. My hair used to be longer, but I find that it gets stringy if it gets too long, and it just looks like I've jumped out of a dumpster.

I'm a natural blonde, but during the winter my hair starts to fade to a light brown (due to the little light exposure I get in frigid Canada!); I've noticed that volumizing products make my hair look dirty, especially when I'm blonder in the summer.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any styles in mind? I have a long face and a high forehead so I usually like to keep bangs. The most frustrating part about having the bob was keeping the back of the hair looking "nice". I tried to curl it under in the morning, but my hair is straight as a board and refused to cooperate.
Ideas?!

Have you tried the John Freida line? Pantene and Suave both have hair color-specific lines for maintaining color clarity, if price is an issue, but John Freida is the original.
What about a perm? Layers? Pixie cut? Dye it brown?
There are a few options, but it all depends on what you want to do. Hope you find an answer that works for you.

Hi!! wow, you described my hair!!!

I think the only thing different is mine doesnt look dirty from products but I am very picky about them because I dont like sticky. I am adding much more than you asked for but maybe some of it will help out

I have found a few things that help me:

- wash and dry but not totally dry at night ..if it's freshly cleaned, it wont cooperate at all. and blow dry it upside down for volume. sleeping with it just slightly wet will add texture. I also sometimes sleep with a scrunchy wrapped around the length to add curl.
- I wear my hair up allot instead of trying to mess with it down and I watch youtube at times for new easy updo ideas.
- if it's muggy or raining and I am to be outside, I dont bother with a downstyle at all unless straight.
- I think best styles for volume would be some layers and not too much length. I keep mine just below shoulders. But, I was able to get good volume with the inverted bob as long as I styled it with a hot hair dryer every day and the back looked cute cuz it was shorter in the back so didnt need much styling. ...sounded like you may have more of a straight bob?
- I have also found having it highlighted now and then adds volume and adds the look of volume
- when you want a downstyle, blow dry the style on hot with a light styling product. nothing too heavy because the weight will only pull your hair down. and try to blow dry it pulling your hair up and over to the opposite side for volume.

for volumizing hair products... I use:

Marc Anthony 'Thick' shampoo and conditioner
(sold at some grocery stores)

Wella Liquid Hair Energy Styler Volumizing Mousse **** works great!
(sold at some salons and I have also ordered online) (not sticky and I use it at night before drying)

Redken Medium Control Workforce 09 Flexible Volumizing Spray - 2 oz (60 ml)
(lightly spray before styling) (sold at some salons..call around)

Dove weightless hairspray (not sticky and is humidity resistant)
(sold at Walmart and some grocery stores)

hope this helps!

OMG!! You just described me exactly!! I've had the same hair for 15 years! I really need a change, badly. My hair is long though, to my waist. It's so thin and fine that I rarely need to brush it. But it's so boring. The only thing that I ever do to liven it up is put barrettes in and/or color it. People don't realize that you can't do much with thin, fine hair without a lot of work and products. It doesn't hold a curl at all. Boooo!

hopefully there are some stylists on here who can give up some pointers.

I also have very thin hair and I used to have a light champagne colored blond hair. What I would do and get a mousse from one of those brand that make color-specific products and I would work it into my roots when my hair was still just towel dried. I would then brush my bangs down and style those. After bangs were done, I'd flip my head over and dry my roots upside down. That gives hair body at the roots and then you can style the rest the way you like. Hope this helps!!!

I guess really it depends on how thin your hair really is. I have thin hair. My sister has see thru to the scalp thin hair. If you are like her...you have to wear your hair short and use whatever style hides your scalp the best. If you are like me there are quite a few things that you can do. Number One is never let your hair grow beyond your shoulders...you're right it just looks stringy. If you want straight hair ask your stylist to give you a perm using big rollers...not perm rods...rollers like old ladies use. This will give you lift without kinky curl. Then when you need to style it simply use a flat iron. I have nasty hair too. I cannot use alot of product or it gets greasy looking. I cannot wash my hair at night and expect to do it in the morning for the same reason...I look like a greaser. So I get my hair layered and permed with the huge rollers and then flat iron it with no product whatsoever and it looks great. If you want curly hair, ask your stylist to perm your hair using her biggest perm rod...these do not last as long as a regular perm but are super easy to style with the frizz ease collection....DO NOT USE cheap hair products on your hair...cut expenses somewhere else....look at the back of your shampoos if it says ammonium throw it out. If you already have bad hair adding ammonium and alcohol is not a good idea. Also have your hair dyed by your stylist every 6 weeks. Dyes add body....I should say professional dyes add body...store bought dyes add brass and bleach. Good luck...I know what you are going thru...sometimes I wonder why other people can be blessed with normal hair and I have to walk around with a mop on my head and a thin mop at that.

nioxion is a great product that thickens the hair.......you can also use extentions to add more length and/or thicken it up......there are several types of extentions...i personally like fusion...the cost a little bit more but the last up to 10 months
