Default Choosing the right foundation shade

Can anyone offer any advice on choosing the right shade of foundation? I have really pale skin, and no matter what brand I use, the shade always come off as too orange - even if I choose the palest possible shade.

I've tried those foundations that are supposed to adapt to your skin tone, but they've been no good either.

Any advice is much appreciated!

I've heard prescriptives is great for light skin. Also, just from my point of view - i'd suggest trying an ultra-sheer foundation (or maybe even a tinted moisturizer?)... or are you looking for something with much more coverage than that?

Thanks for the quick reply! I think a tinted moisturizer would probably give enough coverage most of the time, but when I've got spots I could do with a slightly heavier coverage. I've never tried prescriptives, so will keep an eye out for that next time I'm shopping!

if you dont have to wear full on makeup, definitely dont! haha when my face is in a 'good mood', i try to just wear tinted moisturizer. it looks (and feels!) much more natural. and if you just have an occasional blemish, spot it with concealer to tone it down rather than piling thicker makeup on your whole face

have you tried going to dept stores or make up boutiques? usually the salespeople are more than happy to help you find the right shade and some even let you take home samples to help you see if you like that particular foundation or not.

Great answer Taro! That is exactly how I found the perfect make up. I went to the store and they tried some different products on me (liquid foundations v. powders), and I found the perfect product. I get compliments on how great my skin looks all the time, people hardly ever think I'm wearing makeup. For the record, I bought myself Bare Minerals....I have a very "pale" friend as well, and she bought that product and loves it.

I just wanted to reiterate how great bare minerals makeup is. Maybe the reason the foundation turns orange is that it's a liquid or is just an inexpensive brand? I know bare minerals can be expensive, but it's well worth the money! If you're wanting to spend a little less, Mary Kay mineral makeup is a great second.
