Default Question!

please read this before i ask the question:
i hate my hair. my hair is super curly. & not even nice curls either. I wouldnt mind curly hair, if it werent so.. disgusting. mine is so disgusting. i know i would be gorgeous if i had better hair. when i do my hair the right way, i look fabulous. but it takes a lotta work. & im tired of it. i used to straighten my hair everyday. that really damaged it. when i got to highschool i straightened it sometimes or i would put mousse in it & leave it kinda curly & put it back, it looked good that way, but it was hard to do everyday. & now that its summer, of course the mousse isnt gonna stay in when i go in the water the beach or at a pool. & my hair is still really damaged. .. heres the question.

i thought about.. not like crazy person stuff like britney spears or whatever i dunno why she did it, but like cutting all my hair off, like not exactly shaving it, because i dont want to walk around bald & i dont have cancer.. not that i know of.. so of course people arent gonna understand. i thought about getting a wig, temporarily, hoping my hair would grow in straight or at least wavy, easier to work with, but a wig isnt gonna stay on with the stuff i do, like ride rollarcoaster, jump over & in waves the ocean. so i thought about cutting my hair just short enough so i could put in extensions.. does anybody think thatll work ?

people may think this is desperate to look pretty, but i kno if i had the right hair i would look pretty. i know. & i want to get the right hair. somebody help me ?

Do you work? Save your money, then get an appointment with a top flight hair stylist. Not the local gum snapping, hair hacker at the chain salon.

One way to find a really good one is to head to your city's highest end shopping district, go into some of the store you would normally never bother with because they are too expensive, find a few women who look like they really take care of themselves and politely ask if they can recommend a good sylist. Another place to check? See if there is a Jr Assistance League thrift shop, ask the ladies who volunteer there who they recommend.

Make yourself an appointment and go talk with them, explain your concerns but don't tell them what to do or how - they are the experts and have built a name - perhaps nationally on their skill. People who cut hair expect you to tell them what you want and they do it, at least sort of, whether it will look good or not. a top flight stylist will say NO. They will refuse to do a cut or style that doesn't suit your hair, facial shape or needs. Tell him or her what you want as an end result and what your lifestyle needs are and let them tell you what you should consider doing. Depending on where you are, and what services you get (such as a body wave) you can expect to spend $100 to $300. Once you've got the look you want and instruction on how to style and maintain your hair you can start searching for a decent stylist and a less expensive place, to have them keep the look.

We all want to look our best. There's nothing wrong, or desperate about that.

I've never had extensions put in my hair, so I'm no expert on this. But I've heard that they also damage your hair. From what I've heard that when the extensions are put in, they weigh heavy, and cause your hair to break off. Again, I don't know if I'm right.

What about cutting your hair short? You remember the hair cut that Halle Berry had in that James Bond movie? My mind just went blank. But what about something like that?

If you're an active person, shorter hair is much easier to take care of too. It can make your face look very pretty, and you don't have to deal with your curls..

Yes i do work. I will save my money. But are there any other ways to find an expert stylist ? Because i live in a small town & i dont know if there are any big fancy stylists anywhere near. & I am also afraid to tell my parents about my decision because my mom thinks i should just be happy with what i have.. thought i cant. =[

I could get my hair like that Halle Barry in the James Bond movie. But am i too young to pull off such short hair ? I am only 15.

Short hair is for any age. It all depends on the shape of your face.

If you want, you can google "short hair styles". IF you find a good website, they will explain what facial shapes looks best on short hair.

If you're still interested in extensions, I would call about 3 or 4 places near you, and ask them some information about extensions. Then you'll be able to make a better, more informed decision about them.

I like Tina's idea, research, you may even find a site, that allows you to put your face and then change the hair over it to see how you would look.

I have wavy hair underneath and straight on top and mine is long so i get the "it's a pain"..

Learn styles also where it looks great, and "in" with your hair up, with pins, headbands etc, for summer, alot of girls are doing this and adding hair extentions as well but mainly putting it up, showing both versions.

Being in an area with limited options is difficult. My experience has been that a really good stylist is night and day from my usual results with a hair cutter person. CW is right that those web sites may be helpful. How far off is your 16th bday? Might your mom consider a special bday gift of a visit to a good salon? I took my daughter when she was 17. She didn't like the cut she got at first but it grew on here and she has kept essentially the same cut for well over a year now (a record for her)

My 16th birthday isnt pretty much for a whole year now. I really dont think my mom would take me to special salon because, i had had my hair relaxed before, & she did not approve, I was supposed to pay for it myself, but my dad was generous enough, i dont know why though, & he paid for it. But this big step i do not think my dad will support either. I want to make this decision on my own, I know they could be mad, but they arent paying for it.
