    Default Urgent advice needed please!

    Hi All,
I have finally had enough with my hair it is half way down my back which is naturally curly. I have been having bleach highlights for about ten years now. Basically due to having no spare money to spend at the hairdressers, I need to find a fix for my roots which are about 4 inches long now which means I cant have my hair down because its two tone, medium/dark brown at the top then blonde.

My question is can I get a permanent blonde colouring from the shop to put on myself? So then I can just keep putting a bottle on when I need it.

Or can I dye my hair back to the brown colour that it once was?

I can email a picture of how bad it actually is...

If you can't afford a hairdresser, my advice is to have it colored back natural and leave it at that. Maybe do highlights yourself with the kits they sell at the store, or use natural highlighters like lemon juice and sunlight...

Unless you are VERY lucky, you will not be able to have a hairdresser dye it blonde and then you find the exact same color blonde to keep doing the roots yourself.. it color shift will show because their shade wasn't the same as what you bought and applied.

I think dying it back to brown would be the best option. Then it can just grow out to it's normal color. And you never know how a home job will turn out. (yikes)

    Default Advice needed please.

    Hi,
Thank you for your replies, from reading other topics I can not just put brown straight on my hair, Is this correct? I read you have to put red dye on then wash that of and whilst your hair is wet then apply the brown dye, can you tell me if this is the best way to do it? If so can you tell me what sort of red colour to put on? And can you recommend a good type to use for the red and brown dye.

    Many thanks

I had this issue also, after I stopped working at a salon about 3 years ago. I tried using brown dye, thinking it would cover it, but it only covered it for the first 24 hours; after that, the dye naturally begins to fade, as you will notice with any color, and the highlights bled through at an unusually orange/red hue. I would not ever recommend using store bought highlighting kits as they are difficult to use and some tend to bleed. The best thing for you to do is to realize that when you dye your hair back to brown, it will take a few colorings to get it right; you will still see a lighter coloring over your old highlights, but much less after 2 or 3 colorings. This isn't to say that you should do them in any shorter of a time than a normal coloring; do it over the recommended 4-6 week period, so that your hair has time to produce the natural oils necessary to protect your hair from damage. I hope this helps, and good luck.
