    Default Going Blonde :O

Ok so I'm naturally a med-dark brunette. I currently have light auburn colour after getting a light cleanse.
I've heard horror stories of cleansing resulting in destroyed hair. Granted mine was only a light one but I noticed no real difference in the condition of my hair.
I'd like to hear how any of you ladies went blonde and if you did so through highlights or and all over cleanse and colour??
    Any advice would be great!!

I am naturally a light brunette.About a year ago I decided to go auburn. That was the worst thing I could have ever done.I still have the auburn but my hair is fried.Naturally I have very thick hair, but now,it has thinned out something fierce because of the hair dye killing my folicles.

Really consider all the damage hair coloring can cause, because it does fade, and especially with a light on dark color, you'll have to dye it more often. As you know, hair dying isn't all what its choked out to be,and frankly, once I go back to my original color,I will never even touch another bottle of that stuff.

I did however used to put in blonde highlights for about 4 years, and that didn't damage my hair one bit.It really depends on the person and how there scalp reacts to the change.

Oh and when you do decide to go blondmake sure you buy some leave in conditioner, and especially apply it to your ends.It helps keep your hair from burning and it even helped keep in my color.

Dying dark hair blonde is a long process, and completely unlike lightening a few shades or darkening. It's not really dying, it's bleaching.
Just a few months ago, I took my level five, back-length hair to very light blonde. I have since decided to cut it off at my chin and dye it back to brown. Why?
Because bleached hair is impossible to deal with. My hair is naturally straight, manageable, easy to wash and brush, and can be left to air-dry.
My bleached hair was none of those things. If I washed it in the morning, it had to be blow-dried before it could be detangled or styled. It was completely fried.
The way I achieved my color was two boxes of over the counter hair bleach. Bad choice! Dark hair _must_ be taken to a salon to become blonde. Why? Because stylists have access to stronger bleaches that will hurt your hair less. Although I used two applications of the bleach in the box, the second one didn't lift any more color than the first. One strength of bleach will only take you so far. So I went in to a salon and they were able to "fix" my color by doing all-over foil highlights ... which are really the only way to get dair hair to lighten all over. I'm lucky I have the amount and volume of hair that I do, because there was a LOT of it in my drain over the next few days after that.
Another thing to consider is that you have one color on your hair already - that will need to be stripped out before you start moving towards the blonde.
If you want to do this, you should do it. It's just hair, it grows back. But you should understand your risks too. How thick is your hair? Can you stand to lose 1/2 of the strands in your head? How fast does it grow, in case you hate the results? (Dying it back to its original color doesn't fix what the bleach has done.) Do you want to pay a stylist to get it done? And continue getting it done every 6 weeks or so? You can't wait long to touch up blonde hair, since the new growth is such a strong change of color.
Being blonde is a big change, and can be kind of fun, but just make sure you know what you're getting into first! I didn't want to believe what kind of damage I was doing, but I'm glad I went ahead and did it and got it out of my system. Just do it the right way, go to a stylist, ask their opinion. You'll thank yourself later!

Well, I had black hair for a number of years, then one day I decided I wanted white hair. So took a trip to the store and bought some bleach that was supposed to take it from black all the way to light blond....needless to say it didn't work out too well. I ended up with WHITE roots, fading down into an orange color, not what I expected. I ended up having to cut my hair it was so damaged. I eventually ended up going back to black and it faded into a dark brown, then some time later I decided to try again with the blond. Well this time it worked and I have perfect blond hair, I would not recommend going from black to white EVER.

I get blonde highlights and then also low lights put into my hair every 8-10 weeks. At first I noticed a lot of dryness but I basically just leave my conditioner on an extra minute or two when I'm in the shower and I also use split end protector on my hair (I feel like some of the dryness is also that I straighten a lot). But once I started just making sure my hair was protected, it's been fine. Good texture, no excessive dryness, etc.

I'd say go for it...being blonde requires a decent amount of upkeep but I love my hair this color.
