Default new shade of eye liner, can some shades be more prone to irritation then others?

I tried out a new plumb shade of eye liner, normally i wear a black liner. I noticed my eyes felt irritated and became patchy and red. It felt like they were dry or something was in them. I thought it could be the chlorine as well. I went about two weeks with out the plumb color and my eyes were fine. today i tried it again, and yeppers red and patchy. I have been using this brand for a long time, and am now curious if the color could be the reason for the irritation like the dye or something?

Quite possibly! I'd suggest trying the same shade but a different brand and seeing what happens.

Perhaps you're allergic to the dye used in it. Sort of like how I'm allergic to the red dye in Pepsi, but not the blue and yellow dye in Mountain Dew.

It's sort of just a guess, since I know I'm not allergic to any of the other ingredients in it.

Sounds like a paraben reaction. I have dealt with it for years, all you can do is avoid products with paraben. One you are sensitised it will only get worse. You can see a dermatologist for confirmation.

You could also stick to your normal black color. Or try a different brand with the plum color, because it seems like it is a reaction to just the specific dye. Each brand will make theirs slightly different so you could still go looking for a plum color.
