Default Brushing/Straightening your hair. - Healthy?

Are there healthy ways to brush and straighten your hair?
Sometimes I straighten my hair using a dryer and a hair-brusher.

But I've heard they damage the hair if not used correctly.

I've also seen on TV other electric brusher - thermo-ceramic ones.

Which of the means is considered healthier and should I apply any product on my hair before using the above mentioned?

Usually I put Cristal Liquids from Black - professional line but I don't know if that's enough.

Well, personally I don't dry or straighten my hair, and I have hair down to my bum. Avoid it if you can as both are damaging. When my hair is still wet I comb then gently brush through it if I want my hair straight. If I want my waves to stay then I gently comb my hair in the shower with gobs of conditioner. When I get out of the shower and towel dry my hair I rustle my hands through to loosen it up and let it dry naturally. The waves just pop out.
I used to brush 100 strokes a night then got tired of that as it did nothing and I learned it can be very damaging.

If you must dry it then get some brand with tourmaline ion therapy.
If you must straighten your hair then use a heat protection cream or spray. Think of your hair as stir fry noodles that will burn unless you protect them with oil.

It isn't too bad if you use heat protectant sprays or serums. There are also conditioners you can use in the shower that helps.

It is best to comb through your hair while in the shower with hair soaking wet. Brushing hair wet (especially for brunettes) stretches out your hair strands and can cause breakage. Only brush your hair when it is completely dry. Before straightening, make sure your hair is COMPLETELY dry before touching it with a flat iron or you could literally fry your hair. Also, use a heat protectant, I like Born Again by Kevin Murphy. And use a flat iron with titanium coated plates, they pull through your hair much smoother than ceramic coated plates and cause less damage and frizz. I use a U-Smooth flat iron and it has treated my hair the best compared to other straighteners.

I recommend a very good hair product to help you keep your hair healthy shiny and resilient, it's Pro Naturals Moroccan Oil hair treatment with heat protector smoothes the cuticles and helps fortify hair that is prone to breaking, split ends and supplies hair nutrients. Provides heat protection against electronic hair tools. I bought it at safrons.

Just make sure you use a heat protector spray before you use heat on your hair. Using a serum will also help reduce the effects of heat

I use Kenbihatsu Sesame shampoo. I have long, dark brown, course hair; this shampoo gives it a sheen and pleasant scent that my husband says just fits me. I'm almost out of it so I'll either have to find another source or get my mother to send me some more from Hawaii.

It is a lot of trouble to wash my hair because it is getting very long, down to my waist. I only wash it every 2-3 days and get my husband to help me brush it (I threatened to get it cut but he likes it long so he helps me).

I dont go for straightener because my friend once went to a salon to get the treatment and ended up with a "broom like" hair consistency. I prefer natural dry and curves

In the shower; use a good shampoo and conditioner.
If you need to apply heat with a blow drier and straightener, apply it before.
I have two that I am fond of,
    Paul Mitchel straightening serum & It's a 10.
