    Default Dandruff

I have extremely oily hair and skin in general. I had bad dandruff on the top of my head, base of my neck and hairline by my ears. I'm waiting to get a referal from my doctor to go to a dermatologist. In the meantime, anything I could try?I've tried head and shoulders (never again) T-gel, Nizerol, Selsun blue etc.... Any suggestions as to what I could use in the meantime. Believe it or not, the best solution I've found so far is baby shampoo.

Actually, yes. Usually our hair becomes oily because we strip it of natural oils, and end up overproducing the oils our hair/skin/etc crave. I had an issue pop up about a week ago where I got dry flaky hair down the line where I part my hair, hair line, etc. like you described. Here's what I did: take a bottle that you can easily pour out of. I used sweet almond oil, walnut oil, vitamin e oil (the whole bottle, bought at say wal-mart, vitamin e is great), avocado oil, and tea tree essential oil. The important part of this mix is the TTO, and it *has* to be mixed with a base oil or it will hurt your skin. The avocado oil I purchased at CVS, and it came in a small bottle like the vitamin e oil. Put both of those into another bottle (a used shampoo bottle would be good, but something that you can pour out of easily). If you choose to use the almond oil and walnut oil, mix them in equal parts into the bottle until it's about full. Add in a few drops of TTO at a time until you can smell it. Shake the mixture before use. Take a small amount at a time and massage it into your scalp. Make sure you get a good amount in there, and saturate the roots. The massage aspect of this is very important, because it helps break up the dry skin without ripping it off like from picking at it (not sure if you do, but I know I do <_<). Let it sit for 20-30 minutes (more if you'd like, it doesn't really matter much).

Now, for your regular shampoo, at the TTO to that as well. Same process, just enough so you can smell it, shake well before use.

After you let the oil sit in your hair, shampoo as usual. Make sure to massage well with the shampoo as well to help work the rest of the dry skin out. I used this method for about 3 days, and I'm pretty much cleared up. The TTO in the shampoo will work as a preventative, but the oil mixture can be used weekly, if you so choose.

When I was younger I got dandruff on top of my head near the part. It would show bad because my hair is dark brown, almost black. If my Mom saw even one little flake she would make me sit down while she scraped ever last flake off with a sharp little comb she had.

So I would inspect my head and at the first sign of dandruff I would rub my scalp with coconut oil. I used the same coconut oil Mom used for cooking. I would put it on in the morning and leave in in all day while I hung out with my gang of beach bums. When it was time to go home I would go for a swim in the ocean, letting the salt water wash out most of the coconut oil. When I got home I showered and washed my hair. After that I would be dandruff free for at least a week, sometimes a month.

    Hi,
You can make a shift to some natural remedies till the time you visit your physcian. You can apply lemon in your hair, but don't leave it overnight as it is a bleaching agent as well and might cause greying. You can also use Aleo Vera extract. It is an excellent anti dandruff agent. Besied this, apply henna once a week. I am sure u will get atleast some respite.

As rosekitten said above this post, tea tree oil is fantastic for treating dandruff. When I was researching an article talking about using tea tree oil for dandruff, Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner kept cropping up. To me it looks very expensive, about $45 for the shampoo and conditioner on Amazon at (edit)
I don't know if it's sold in shops in the US, but if it is it might be wiser to pick it up from there. A lot of advice also suggests to add extra drops of tea tree essential oil to the shampoo to increase the effect.

It's something that might be worth looking into and I really hope you get your issue sorted. I know first hand how disruptive those tiny white flakes can be!

I am also facing the dandruff problem. I have tried lemon juice on my scalp. But it helped for a period of time only. After that again the dandruff started visible on my head.
