Default Help My Nails Are Too Thin!

I have tried every nail strengthener I can get my hands on. I am allergic to dairy, so that is out of the question. Any ideas, please??

Increase your calcium intake. Dairy is not the only way to do so. Calcium is found in all sorts of things...

You may consider a calcium supplement too. Calcium Carbonate is absorbed easily and readily by the body. Oyster Shell calcium is also very good as it relates to absorption.

It might be worth consulting with your local pharmacist too. Just make sure it's the pharmacist and not a pharm tech.

Peanut butter and jello always helped my nails to stop breaking, something about the gelatin and the protein helps strengthen them.

There is a supplement called Hairtopia that I took after being in the hospital and losing some hair due to treatment. It's available online. Absolutely fantastic. It makes your hair grow like CRAZY and my nails were strong and beautiful.

You have some other topical options as well. There's an oil called SolarOil which is from the nail company CND. It is an oil applied directly to your cuticles and all over your nails. If you can locate a CND salon near to you, I would highly recommend getting it. Have you tried Nail Envy? I believe it is available at the drug store. I've heard good things about that as well.

Also some tips: wear gloves while putting your hands in water for long periods of time (washing dishes etc), try and minimize the use of hand sanitizer, as the alcohol is extremely hard on nails and strips away the natural oils that strengthen them. when cutting your nails, do it in sections. don't try to do one cut, as that bends the edges and weakens them. and if you're going to file them, file in one direction, from the outside to the middle.

Just a few ideas that I give to my clients at my salon.

When i took calcium tablets and drank buckets of water i found about 6 months later my nails stopped chipping. My nails are naturally ULTRA thin, they are almost see through, and they never get long. But this helped. It took 6 months to see a difference because the nail bed had to grow to the edges to see a difference.
Also, don't be rough or handle things, working in retail, the coins and cash register- forget growing nails! The month my sister stopped working in retail her nails grew insanely.
    That's my advice

Protein and amino acids are going to help your nails a lot more than calcium.

Or typing too much, you lose your nails there too

From everything I read, calcium does help nails grow.

Health and strength in nails depend on a good balance between calcium and silica in the diet and a system, which can metabolize and make good use of these minerals efficiently.

Sometimes there is a deficiency in other minerals like Magnesium, which is also involved, in structural health and this is the reason that a little Dolomite is useful to ensure sufficient Magnesium (and Calcium).
We often don't have enough Silica in our Diets and often have far too much Calcium. We are told that we must drink milk to grow strong bones and all the rest, but in fact westerners mostly have too much Calcium and not enough of the other minerals required and are actually worse off than we would have been without milk at all.
Internal treatments using Equisetum (also called Horsetail) which is very high in Silica with Yarrow and Comfrey have good nail nutritional value.
    Taken from Nail Doctors website...

Also the moment I went off the pill, my nails grew strong and hard, there has to be something said therefore about the pill.

Yes, calcium helps. I just said that protein and amino acids help more. The calcium content of your nails isn't much. I'm an advanced nail technician, beauty therapist and salon owner.

Most BC pills lower your folic acid which is another thing that helps nails grow. And we know low folic acid levels can cause depression as well.
