I think with most birth controls, you can have sex while on the white pill (which I'm assuming by white pill you are meaning the one's you take when you are suppose to have your period), but you are not 100% protected. It is suggested to use another form of birth control but is not completely neccessary. If you every have doubt, you can also find a pregancy care place and ask about plan B. It's like a supper birth control pill (like taking an extreme shot of the same hormones that's in birth control) that will keep the egg from becoming fertilized. You can use it up to 3-5 days I believe after having sex but the sooner you take it the higher your chance of it working as it should. Here in Southern MO it's about 30$ for the pill and it's only 1 or 2 pills that you take for plan B.
And plan B is ok to use at the same time as other birth controls from what I've read. I've taken it with my birth control once and had no side effects.
Also, as far as what I said about the white pill earlier, I take just a generic birth control which is a low dosage (with high blood pressure I can't have the larger dosage birth controls, plus it's so much cheaper!). And my doctor has told me that I don' thave to worry too much about sex while on the white pill.
Your best bet is to talk to a pharmacist or call the company that makes the birth control you take. I hope that helps!

As long as you are taking them correctly throughout the month, there is no difference in effectiveness (99%). I was on Yasmin for almost three years, took it correctly every month and got my period like clockwork every time. I even skipped a few of the sugar pills during the last week of the pack every month and never had a problem. The inactive pills at the end of the pack during your period arent' used for anything but as reminder pills so you don't forget to take one at the same time daily.
