Hi, Im 45, very healthy & still on birth control due to what I believe to be slight enodmetriosis (never actually confirmed thru testing). I didnt start my period until 18, & have been on birth control off & on since about 26. I had several abortions earlier on when I was younger, uninformed & irresponsible. I have concerns about continuing to be on the pill (Ortho lo) & wonder if anyone out there has any input on experiences taking the pill at my age. Physically, I am way younger than my years, most people thing I am 25 or 26. I dont smoke & rarely drink. Any thoughts? My gyn just renewed my pres. for another 6 months of ortho lo.... but she wasnt sure I should continue to take it. Any thoughts???/
I personally do not think that women should take birth control unless they really need to and have no other alternatives, but that is just my opinion. If I were you, I would really think about if you need it or not and if it is benefitting you other then preventing pregnancy. There are methods of birth control which do not require the manipulation of hormones. I would take into consideration anything your doctor may have said about not taking it. I do not know the effects of BC on women over 40 and what differences there might be in comparison to a 20 year old woman. That is one question that you should save for a doctor or two.
