    Default IUD is STUCK!!!

So I've had my IUD since Sept 8, 08. For 4 months now. I've had nothing but problems with it since I've gotten it. Lately I've been feeling very pregnant. So I went to my Dr. yesterday to have some tests done. Turns out that I'm NOT pregnant! Thank god. But my Dr. said we could go ahead and take the IUD out right now since you know for sure you want it out. Of course I said yes. So they opened me up and started taking it out. My Dr. said you don't normally have to pull this hard to get it to come out. She was pulling so hard on the strings that she actually PULLED THEM OFF! Now the IUD is still stuck in there! She said she thinks it was embedded in my uterus, and that's why she couldn't get it out. So now I have to go see an OBGYN next Thursday so they can have a go at it. They won't tell me how they plan on getting it out, just that they will. I have no insurance, so I am paying for all out of my own pocket which I really can't afford! But anywho, my question is has anyone else had this happen to them, and if so, how did they get yours out?
    Thanks.

They will probably do an ultra sound so they can see exactly where it is - they sould have a tool that will allow it to be easily removed - I didn't have this problem but no way you are the first!

    Question Imbedded Iud

I have had my iud in for 5 yrs this next month. I tried to get it out a year ago and they looked at it thru an ultrasound (after probing for it a couple of times with bigger and sharper objects each time).. it is imbedded. THe next day, I do all my pre-surgery stuff...total now is $450. The hospital calls me the night before my surgery (a D&C) and tells me it is going to be $14,000! "I had a C-section, and in hospital for four days for 12,000!" Mind You, I now live in Vegas "home to overpriced healthcare" and my csection in Utah. So, with my insurance, I was gonna pay $6,000... I said "heck no!" and canceled immediatly. A doc friend of mine in SLC, UT said his wife had a D&C for 4,000.. so i figured with my insurance..$1000 to 2000... I can handle.. The expense of this surgery is due to being put under.. I dont understand why I can have a Csection and not go under but for this i need to? It is only a 45 min procedure with 2hrs prior and 2 after, basic stuff.. in hospital for 4-5 hrs tops...$16 G's??? still baffles me!.. Otherwise, everything else has been ok with my Murina... If anyone has had this surgery?? Let a girl know!

They put you under because they are scraping or vacuuming the inside of your uterus and if you twitched or something it could create a serious problem. I had one last year with an ablation and the prices you were initially quoted sound outrageous.

    Hia.

I also think the prices you were given are way too high!

As for having a D&C, I'm not sure why they are doing that surgery to get it out. I had a Laparoscopy to have mine removed. I don't know why they wouldn't just do the same surgery on you? Unless it's the amount of time yours has been stuck. I only had mine for 4 months. But you should ask about this! Which only cost around 3000.00 total. Which is still too much if you ask me! Yes, you only have to stay for a couple of hours before and after, not that long at all. I don't know why they're telling you it cost so much. I'm soooooo sorry. I feel your pain. You might want to check with the Dr office that you had it put in. The Dr office that did mine have an extra insurance for things that go wrong or unplanned, and they pay for EVERYTHING! The company that does this for Dr offices is called Copic Insurance. So you should check with the Drs that put it in and see if they can help you out in any way. Not all Dr offices use this insurance. But you should definitly ask I hope everything works out the best for you. I know how you're feeling. If you have anymore questions or just need to talk, then please don't hesitate okay

I'm a nurse and I can tell you why it's so expensive. It's because the surgeon and the anesthesiologist don't get to play golf that day. Abortions are done under local anesthesia and those are rather invasive. Getting an embedded IUD removed would be about the same. Abortions go for about $500 (on average). They're charging you $16k because of the general anesthesia, the doctors' time, and the fact that they have to open you up (since you said it'd be a "C-Section").

Talk to your Gyno. There has to be a better solution to this quagmire.

Holy - you know, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I live in Vegas too and had my tubes tied in February. My husbands insurance fortunately covers 100%, so it didn't occur to me to even ask about prices, but I was shocked to find out that when I got my EOB from insurance, the billed about was $18k. This was for a tubal and D&C! I couldn't believe it. I've had two c-sections, the first in 2000 was about $16k and the second was in 2005. That was $22k, but that also included 3 days of NICU for my son. The c-sections were in New England, but I couldn't believe the cost difference.
