Why not use an IUD that doesn't have hormones? I've done some looking up on this and can't find any real justification for the added hormones. IUDs have worked well for a long time, why add the extra trouble that artificial hormones can cause?
I am looking to start taking a form of Birth Control soon, and all of the info I am finding on side-effects is terribly scary. The 2 options I am considering are IUD and Depo shots as those have the least risks for smokers. But I've read a lot of complaints of people gaining weight on these methods, a lot of weight.
I struggled with weight and have managed to finally get a handle on it, thank God, so I would hate to start gaining again. For any of you ladies on either IUD (paragard or Mirena pls specify) or Depo, if you could, let me know what you are on and what (if any) impact it has had on your weight?

I used to have the Depo injection when i was 18, didnt work for me though unfortunately and i put on a fair bit of weight with that but i also know someone who had the same and didnt put any weight on at all so i think everyone is different.
