What was your experience on yaz?

Hi ladies. I have posted several times before and am still weighing my options of hormonal birth control since I can't get the non hormonal iud because I have not yet had children, or so I have been told by my gyno. Right now I'm trying to decide if I should try yaz, mircette or implanon. Have any of you tried any of the two pills yaz or mircette and what was your experience? Or have you tried the implanon implant? Please include the pros as well as the cons. My biggest concerns are weight gain and acne. My face is very clear and I don't want to alter my complexion in any way. I'm at a healthy 122lbs at 5'6 and I would like to maintain my weight or lose just a little, not too much. I'm very active, so that shouldn't be a problem, but I'm still a little worried.

Just a little history- I have tried these brands in order from first to most recent: nuvaring, cyclessa, and ortho cyclen (not the triphasic low pill, the regular monophasic). They all made me very emotional, hence the reason I want to switch.

I'm probably not a good one to comment on this, because I'm totally done with hormonal birth control. My experience on Yaz was terrible, and I'm still getting over it.

Let's just say I was a very stable and successful woman prior to taking Yaz. Within 4 months of taking it, I had my first panic attack. I didn't attribute it to the Yaz immediately, so I continued taking it for another month. I kept getting nervous, freaked out, scared of everything, and completely lost my appetite. On top of that, my heart rate skyrocketed to over 100 BPM just sitting down, and it hasn't come down yet. (And I've been off Yaz since Feb 1 of this year.)

I am in the healing process, but it is slow. I don't recommend this pill at all. I know some women have had good experiences with it, but for me, this is the last hormonal birth control I will ever put in my mouth.

My name is Kay , and I was on Yaz for about a year. My GYB recommended it after ganing weight with the Othro tri birth control pill. Yaz was suppose to help manage my weight and water retention. Yaz did not give me any problems until 6 months after I was taking it. I DO NOT SMOKE(I hate cigarettes). My husband started to notice that I was weezing in my sleep. My chest would hurt. Sharp pains in my chest. Right arm numb and cramps in my legs. At first I thought it was because I was out of shape. By March of 2009, I stopped taking YAZ. I was told it was giving me a stroke. I am only 28 years old. Since then I have been dealing with the pains in my legs.

What should I do about this?

Im going off yaz in 12 days thank goodness! Sex is impossible, my legs hurt and cramp, im never in the mood and i didnt have this problem on other pills. There are only 2 good things i can think of with yaz:
1) only 4 days of the white pills
2) Clear skin

Okay. Your OBGYN is an IDIOT for telling you that you can't have an IUD because you haven't had kids.

They just say that so that in case something goes wrong and you become infertile, they wouldn't feel so bad about themselves. But the chances of something like that happening are so low they're almost non-existent. It's just the mess in the States in the 70s with IUDs that STILL has people worried about nothing.

The risk is greater to get an IUD when you haven't had kids. There is a much bigger chance it will come out, often more pain involved placing it, and then the risk of infection or injury to the uterus which could mean never having kids. You can say the odds are low but if there are any odds someone who really want a family could end up never being able to we should acknowledge that risk. My doctor only agreed to do mine because I never want kids. Otherwise she would prefer not to and it was repeated to me by several doctors plus you can find it all over online that there are greater odds of it coming out or having to be removed. I still went ahead with it and regret it. My body completely rejected having an IUD and I spent 3 weeks in pain, got an ultrasound that said it was perfectly placed, and finally my body succeeded in shoving it out the day after that perfect ultrasound.

I was on yasmin which is the higher dose form of yaz from probably my 2nd year of highschool until a year ago so about 6-7years. I loved it. My acne that was so horrible in junior high went away. My periods used to be so heavy I'd soak a heavy pad or tampon within 30mins for the first few hours in the morning. This caused much embarassment my freshman year of highschool when we went to block scheduling with 80min classes before I could stop by a bathroom. I started yasmin and I barely had noticeable periods. For 4 days I'd have light bleeding and maybe use medium tampons for one day. Then I lost insurance and couldn't pay for yasmin (it's real expensive). My dandruff, acne, and horrible periods all returned. When I got my insurance back I tried the mirena IUD hoping to get the same effects and have it last 5years so this problem never happened again but like I said that didn't go so well. Then I tried lybrel but the hormone levels were too low and I had constant break through bleeding along with other side effects. I'd had the same problem with several other pills I'd tried before yasmin. So I finally just went to planned parenthood cause my doctor is on vacation and asked for a yasmin prescription. Unfortunately they gave me the generic form which is ocella and apparently lots of women have had issues with it that they didn't have with yasmin or yaz. The side effects from lybrel are going away and I feel better but today I was very nauseas. That's the main complaint women seem to have on ocella versus the name brands. If you decide to try it and your insurance pays for the name brand then tell both the doctor and pharmacy you specifically want that brand and not the generic. Some pharmacies have been giving women the generic without their knowledge and then when they get sick a week into the pack they have to try to get a sample pack or spend the ~$60 a pack of yasmin costs.

Oh from your post in the other thread, I didn't know you got the Mirena! Yes, that particular brand of IUD seems to be causing a lot of problems... not for everyone... but for several women, it seems.

Did you speak to doctors in the US? There's a reason why IUDs are so unpopular in the US when compared with other countries, and the fear stems from past mistakes and misinformation.

There is a slightly higher chance of an IUD being expelled in a woman who hasn't had children. Even in cases where it is expelled, most women just have it put straight back in.

Insertion can be uncomfortable whether you've had children or not. This is why they prefer to do it while you are on your period - when your cervix is less tight.

In any case, I've had a perfectly fine experience with my copper IUD and love it, and I'm just trying to encourage women to consider this option since it's one of the few non-hormonal ones available.

Oh I just want to add that if there is a problem with an IUD, like one that could potentially cause infertility if not taken care of, then there are plenty of warning signs that a woman can look out for so she can take care of it before it becomes serious.

I was on Yaz (and Yasmin). They were both among the worst birth control pills I've taken. They made me very moody, depressed and my periods were actually worse. Between the two of them, I was on them for a year or better and it was pure misery. For some reason, I just never connected my moods with the pills. The only advantages at all to the pills were clear skin and there was zero weight gain.

I'm currently on the implanon and hating it. It's been 2 and a half months, 3months is the testing period, and i've bled for 37 out of 79 days..and i mean BLED. I get headaches regularly and they're hard to get to sleep with even if you take painkillers..my skin and weight have remained the same tho. Apparently after the 3months the bleeding lessens or at least regulates in most cases...fingers crossed!
