    Just ou of couriosity....
I've been on the pill for almost five years now....
Next month my boyfriends parents are going away for three weeks... one of the weeks in which i am supposed to get my period. Is it still safe to skip over my period and just start my next months birth control pack? Will i still be covered from becoming pregant. Birth Control is the only protection we use. Is it safe?

    Default You should be fine!

    Kellie,

I am on the pill as well and my gyn told me that you are protected when skipping the placebo week and starting a new pack provided you don't miss a pill in either pack and you make it continuous meaning you need to take the next pack the day you would take your first placebo. If you take a placebo and then decide to start a new pack, it will probably mess up your cycle and you could get pregnant. Unlikely, but still a chance. I wanted to skip my period for my honeymoon and my doctor actually switched me to a monophasic pill just so that I would be less likely to experience breakthrough bleeding when taking pills continuously for two or three months. If you are on a biphasic or triphasic pill you may be more likely to experience breakthrough bleeding going from one pack, skipping the placebo week and going straight into another, but you will be protected from pregnancy either way. So from my experience you will be fine if you skip a period! You won't get pregnant.
