I started dating my current bf a year ago, and he told me about this place called Planned Parenthood, where I could get birth control pills. I went there and for the first 6 months, it was great. I was getting a 3 month supply of pills, the brand was Alesse 28. I held a few part time jobs since then, and as soon as I started working my care and treatment went down hill. I got one pack of Alesse 28, and that was the last one. I went back a month later, and they switched me to Tri-Leven. These two brands I had no problems with. I go back once a month to get more pills, and they switch me to a different brand every time. They have me on LoOvral now. I started taking it yesterday, and have been having severe nausea and headaches since. At the same time I'm dealing with this, I'm fighting tooh and nail with my local public assistance office to get health insurance so I can get the proper health care I need so badly. I'm lost, I don't know where to turn. Whenever I try to get help from anyone, my problems and concerns fall upon deaf ears. Is there some sort of program that will cover birth control pills so that I do not have to switch brands every month? I can't keep doing this, its taking its toll on me. If anyone knows of a place other than PP, please let me know. thankyou for taking the time to read this and reply to my posting.
I find it a bit strange that PP would continually change your prescriptions without your request. Did you tell them you wanted to stay on a particular presciption or did you just take the priscription and leave? Or did you only ask the receptionist? Unless you spoke directly with the doctor, then I wouldn't accept that as the last and final word. I would talk to one of the doctors, if you haven't already and tell them you want to maintain the same prescription. It's not healthy or reliable to keep changing prescriptions. It will cause your hormones to become unbalanced and the birth control may be less effective. Maybe you should see if there is another PP office you can speak with. That just doesn't sound right to me even if you are on a sliding scale payment plan.
I am not sure, but you might see if your local health department can provide you with birth control. I think they might. Or, there are some hospitals in the US which also do the sliding scale payment plans. They base everything on your income and help you with prescription costs.
I am not sure if there is an insurance plan that could help. There may be. You might try some of the companies such as Anthem or United Health Care that offer the personal individual health insurance plans.
If all else fails, you may have to resort to condoms.
