ok.. i have the mirena iud and have had it for three years. they cannot find the strings and i am going for an ultrasound and going to have it removed. my question is should i have it replaced with another mirena? i have to have it removed bc it is in uterues and causing me to bleed a lot!!! i have two little boys already and my boyfriend has two boys also. we do not want a baby now, but agree tubal ligation is a bit extreme for us. im 24 and he is 28. i was on the the pill with both of my boys and have some apprehension about going back on it. so... any opinions out there on this?? should i get it replaced?

I don't know this is a personal choice. But, personally? If I had one and it went into my uterus, and caused alot of bleeding as a result, I wouldn't blame the Doctor for putting it in wrong, because who knows, but no way would i have another one.

Why not ask all the options when you speak to your Doctor next.. I have always simply taken the pill... I tried a Copper inserted once only and it killed me and had to have it taken out, so I guess that's why I have answered the way that I have.

Speaking from the other side of experience, I had a copper 7 (non chemical type) IUD for years with no problems and removal was a breeze. You might want to go to Planned Parenthood, they are really goos at assessing how good a candidate you are for different methods.
