Well you managed somehow for 6 months, 2 days who knows.
Safe? Just try the "safe" method until your next period, whilst that sucks it's "safe" then you will be okay to go...
That would be my suggestion.

I began nuvaring after being off birth control for about 6 months. I started it about 7 days after the first day of my period. A few days after i had put it in i read that i should have put it in at the latest 5 days after the first day of my period. Am i safe? What effect does it have by putting it in after the 5 initial days?

Do we not realise that in order to find a soul
It doesn't happen over night
if truth were to be told.
Like everything in life that's hard to achieve
you must believe!
I am also on NuvaRing, and you are supposed to insert a new ring a week after you start your period, regardless if your period has stopped. Its a basic cycle to follow; 3 weeks in, 1 week out for your period. Repeat. I write it on my calendar, (starting with the insertion day) as Monday "1 -in" the following Monday is "2 -in" and the third Monday is "3-out"
If you are afraid you will forget, you can google "nuvaring" you can actually download this nifty thing called NuvaTime, which is a little clock which tracks your ring cycle, and lets you know when to insert/remove a ring; all you have to do is enter the date of the ring you last put in and it will keep track for you.
.:. if nothing changed, we wouldn't have butterflies.:.
