I am 20 years old, have recently stopped smoking although I did for quite some time and still smoke occasionally and my mother died of breast cancer. I was up until today on the contraceptive pill 'Yasmin' which is a combined dose of hormones. I went to my GP today and was prescribed Micronor which is a progesterone only pill.

I have been reading about it online and I am scared about the link with breast cancer, the relative risk of pregnancy in taking it over the combined pill, the loss of sex drive and other side effects like hair loss, depression and bad skin.

I have a steady boyfriend and the sex is good, obviously I need to be protected and im worried that this pill is less effective and more risky than the combined version.

Everything i have read on the internet seems to contradict what the GP said. Any advice would help.
