This is my story. I am 22. Don't have any kids.

Went on the pill when I was 17. The pill was fine for about 6months and then I started getting heavy bleeding and became very moody. I tried 2 other pills. The longer I used a pill for- the worse I would be. December- I ended up in the emergency room because the pain was so bad. I felt instantly relieved after getting off the pill- no moodiness and pain was gone.

In March I had the mirena put in. I found the spotting annoying as it seemed to happen at any time (for some reason usually 2 days after intercourse I would get some spotting). However- I've never really had a period since I've had the mirena. Just spotting for a few days when I'd be due for my period. It was starting to get more regular until about 2 months ago- I have had this spotting period every 2 weeks. And My skin has broken out like I've never seen it. It is embarrasing- I think my boyfriend thinks he is dating a 13 year old. I have been looking after my skin and drinking lots of water- nothing seems to help. I have spoken to skin care specialists who straight away tell me because of the position of the pimples- it is hormone related. I've also started to get moody again.. I saw a naturopth who gave me a few things to help with my skin/moods. It all helps until I get to that time of month. Every time I go to the doctor with my problems they just tell me to wait it out a few more months..

Yesterday I was about ready to rip the mirena out myself. I wasn't due for my period but I got it- My breasts were so sore I couldnt even wear a bra. Emotionally I was a mess- all I wanted to do was cry and scream. I can feel every spot on my face.

I need to do something. I can't stand the PMT. (and my boyfriend is sick of it too)

I'm considering changing to the copper IUD- the reason I didnt go for it in the first place was because of the heavy periods I had whilst on the pill.

Has anyone changed from the mirena to the copper IUD? If so what are your expierences. Did you have to wait a month or two between changing?
