    Question Male vasectomy?

Hello ladies. I was wondering if any of you have had a boyfriend, husband, or family member that has had a vasectomy? I am curious to know if you noticed any emotional or mental changes in him? I just wonder if it changes mood. My husband suggested getting a vasectomy when we are done having kids and having some of his sperm frozen just in case. I just worry that it might effect his hormones and cause irritibillity or depression. Anyone who can share personal experience with this would be great. Thanks!

My son had one after two kids and one abortion. I did not see any changes in him.

Hmm... I would like to know as well. Are there any more people who have been in this situation with a male?

My husband had a vas about 4 years ago, and it has been the best thing for us! There have been no side affects whatsoever! If you're sure you don't want any more kids, I would definitely recommend it. My husband was so awesome to do that for me so I didn't have to worry about tubes tied, bc, etc. He said it wasn't bad getting it done, and the recovery time is just a few days. (he got it done on a friday so he had the weekend to relax and take it easy) He said sex was better for him after he had it done-his orgasms were way more intense. It's been great for us-no regrets!! I would highly recommend it! Good luck!!

I'm interested in learning more about this topic as well. Specifically long tem side effects. My SO and I, both in our 40s, do not have and do not want children and I think I am finally fed up with BC Pills. It seems like vasectomy is the most sensible, least expensive option with least amount of side effects. Would love to hear pros and cons...

This is an old thread but may be a topic of current interest. The man in my life had a vasectomy many years ago. I don't know what he was like before so I can't comment on that aspect. I can say that it is wonderfully freeing not to have to deal with BC, although when I had an IUD it was pretty much non concern.

I have heard that there has been some research which indicates that some men develop problems with aggression and anger. The speculation seems to be that somehow the body reabsorbing the chemicals which make up the sperm (as opposed to the ejaculate which still leaves the body) causes an imbalance. However, when I tried to research this a few years ago I couldn't find anything substantive.

I do find the title of this thread humorous. Whe else is going to have a vasectomy?

Thanks WildChild. SO and I have talked a lot about vasectomy recently and we both still have a lot of questions so we're doing our own "scientific" research on the web before taking these Qs to his Dr. I'll research a little more on changes in mood, hormones etc.

That's probably the best thing to do. Do your research, be aware of the quality of the sources of information. Obviously if it's an article in a grocery tabloid it needs more back up than an article from a respected research journal. Talk to people, find out what their experiences are. Hopefully you will get some first hand feed back here.

HAHA - now that I think about that, it is pretty funny!
