I need Birth Control options. Im currently halfway through my 3rd month on Implanon. It's been okay, first month 4 days of spotting and 13 days of a light period however this time round its been 18days of reasonably normal bleeding..not exactly comfortable. Anyway i know it's meant to start to sort itself out after 3months but it's putting a strain on my relationship so im looking for alternative options..i'd prefer something that isnt known for interupting my flow so much however pills arent an option due to family history....advice please?

IUD. Copper, to be exact. All the way. Have you looked into this option before?

Why can you use implanon but not pills? Implanon is hormones just like pills only released constantly into the blood stream. It has all the same health contraindictions as pills although for some of them they don't know if it really has as much or if it even has more chance of causing them.

All IUDS can cause irregular flow and spotting. That's just a side effect of using them. You could try another that is actually inserted in the uterus and see if it's as bad as the implanon for you but if you really don't want to risk having the frequent spotting and irregular bleeding you pretty much have to go to barrier methods. Condoms, diaphragms and cervical caps, spermicide containing things like sponges, etc... All IUDS and hormonal birth control carry the risk of messing with your periods and causing irregular bleeding. You have to test them till you find what works. So far I can only tolerate one type of birth control pill and none of the others. My body did not tolerate an IUD. I bled for 3 weeks. Then I bled off and on for months trying a different pill from what I found worked before the IUD. It does put a strain on the relationship although we've gotten rather creative with satisfying each other in other ways.

IUDs are not supposed to cause spotting or messed up cycles. They can at first, but usually a woman's body adjusts just fine after a few weeks. Of course everyone reacts differently, but I think it's worth a shot.
