Default skipping placebos - still protected?

Sometimes I'll skip the last week of my birth control, the placebo pills with no hormones in them, the ones that cause your period. If I skip this last week and go straight to the next pack with the first week of hormones, like I sometimes do, am I still fully protected from pregnancy during sex? Currently my boyfriend and I use condoms anyways because I'm honestly not sure if I'm still protected when I don't take them the way I'm instructed to. Does anyone know?

    Thanks!

You are still protected. On my doctor's instructions, I've been skipping the placebos in my birth control pills every month for a year.
