ok so i'm sure there is probably a thread here about this & i didn't see it (sry for being a noob) but i need a bit of help. i just went to the doc for a change in birth control. i was taking yaz but i have been having alot of dryness so i wanted to see if changing my birth control would fix it. i had plans to either get another type of pill or try the patch but she highly recommended the nuvaring for my problem. i was already worried about going with it (i had the mirena once & i got horrible cyst from it). she explained the difference between the 2, so even though i still wasn't comfy with the idea i tried it anyways. now i feel like i should have listened to my instinct, i'm having problems with it. it's not a problem of getting it in there so much as it not going in very far. i tried laying down, standing with one leg up, squatting, even tried the tampon applicator. & every time i tried i was pinching the sides. i can't use the tampon applicator because i can't get the nuvaring all the way in the applicator so the little plastic pieces on the end scrape the heck outta me! & i had surgery about a month & half ago to have torn skin up in there removed, i don't want to go through that again. it is going in but i don't think far enough, i feel like i'm one tiny push away from popping it out. i can feel it almost immediately wen i barely even insert my finger, maybe a bit less than 1/2 inch in. is that normal? if not wat else can i do? why won't it go in any farther? my husbands says i just need to keep trying, it may take some time but i'm getting very frustrated & upset cause it seems like all the people who had this problem didn't try one of the methods i already tried & it worked for them. kinda makes me feel like something is wrong with me. can anyone help me

Hello there welcome to the forum

I cant help you with the nuvaring as i have never tried it however i was on yaz and experienced terrible dryness. The reason for that is the amount of estrogen they use in yaz. If you switch to another higher dose pill it should help the dryness problem.

Honestly, if you are having issues with the nuvaring i would suggest looking into another pill but wait for a few more responses.

If you've gotten it behind/under your cervix then it's in. Mine nearly sticks out. Lots of people have them actually stick out even when they are in place. Just make sure you slide it along the bottom/back wall of the vagina, under the cervix, and hooked around it. It will sit back farther that way than if you slide it along the top wall and hit the end against the front of the cervix and it will not come out because your cervix will hold it in place. I kept thinking mine would come out easy but so far even sex and toys haven't dislodge it.

Yasmin is the same hormones but with more estrogen than yaz and the side effect of dryness is even more well known. I don't think it's the estrogen. You can try another pill with a different hormone from yaz and yasmin but there's no telling if they will work any better than the nuvaring. Every form of hormonal birth control causes different side effects in different people. Yasmin and the nuvaring are so far the only ones I can use without major side effects. At least once you get a nuvaring placed correctly you can forget it for weeks and it has no more odds of side effects than anything so it's worth trying. It also is known for increasing moisture instead of drying things out.

I was on Nuvaring for two months. The second month I started my period a week early and was really put off by it. I checked and the ring had fallen out. I think it must have fallen in the toilet or something because I had no idea. That scared me so I switched to something else. I won't go back on Nuvaring because of that and also because my husband said he could feel it and it was kinda uncomfortable.

ok so it needs to go towards the back. i think it is going towards the front. i'm now crappy feeling, idk if it is because i was trying so hard last night to get it far enough in there or wat. just feels achy like the few days b4 a period. last night me & my husband were joking around & wat not. well he tickled me & i barely clinched up & 1/3 of it got pushed out. i'm constantly having to check & push it back in. silly question (i have never been one to learn about my womenly parts lol) could that area, where the nuvaring is suppose to go, b shorter than most other women....silly i know, but i just wonder.

I tried the Nuvaring after my Essure (which I do NOT recommend btw). My husband helped me with it because my uterus is tilted backwards and it makes it really hard to be able to do it by yourself for proper placement. When I placed it, I could feel it hanging out and you shouldn't be able to feel it at all. After 2 weeks, I couldn't stand it anymore. I was allergic to it and that was that - I itched sooo bad from the inside out in places that can't be scratched.

I suppose there is a reason they had to make the rings that big but it seems a good portion of people can't fit them. Mine just barely does. Last time we had sex it did cause some irritation because he was rubbing the end against my urethra. There was some burning afterward and then when I peed but it went away within a few hours. If it sat less than an inch farther back it wouldn't have happened.
