Anyone have trouble with IUD
Hi all! I'm new to this site and I'm just hoping that I can find some answers and support.
I had a merena IUD put in about 6 months ago. There are several issues I'm having that I feel are connected to the IUD.
I'm having PAINFUL intercourse, cramping, sharp pain etc, very much feels like a BAD period. I feel like I'm having constat pms. On top of that I have been having vaginal dryness, chronic BV that flipflops into a yeast infection and then back to BV. I haven't had any relief in about 3 months despite being on Diflucan once a week, metronidozal gel and pills.
My question is this: Could this be due to the IUD? Hormone imbalances? Has anyone else expereinced painful intercourse after having an IUD inserted?

Trouble with IUD
Hello!
Well I had the IUD just recently and to be frank, it sucks! I'm basically on my period for three out of four weeks. My parter's pest and I always seem to be in a bad mood now. I have constant cramps that feels like a tiny shock. I had a sono done to see if it was in place and everything seem to be normal. I asked about the period problem and they said to give it some time but my patience is running short. I need to find another method for birth control only that now I'm hesitant in what I should take.

I got the IUD on 3/21/06 and loved it ! Insertion was painful but not terrible. I loved not having to worry about pills, patches, condoms whatever. Well about 1 month after getting it I developed acne. It wasnt terrible but I never had acne before. I figured it was from the hormone in the IUD. I could deal with that. In mid - July I developed a yeast infection that would not go away. (I also had one in April but it went away with meds) I had it from July-Sept and even after that I would have bouts of itching and irritation. My dr's told me it was from one of the following detergent, soap or toilet paper. I have always used free & clear detergent, Dove soap for sensitive skin and Angel Soft toilet tissue. They told me to change them one by one until I found out what was causing the irritation. I didnt do that, I figured I have been using these forever why would I need to change now ? I asked if it could be from the IUD and was told no it wasnt a side effect. So everytime I got it I would treat with OTC. They went on until I had it removed. I started suffering with depression, irritability and complete exhaustion. My hair also started falling out and I was having memory loss. I can compare the memory loss with the type you suffer during pregnancy. The one who took the brunt of my mood change was my 8 year old. I was unable to cope with him being 8 and acting they way he did. I swear I think I really could have beaten him, I wanted to. I have gotten to the point where I did push and shove him. I lost my sex drive. It didnt decrease it left completely. I didnt have sex for 2 months at a time. I had no desire for it. When I gave in to DH it was extremely painful. I did want to be with my husband but my body refused.
I did some internet research and came across forums of women who were having the same issues as me ! Some were more severe and they needed depression medications (which btw werent working). I decided that I needed to get this removed ASAP. I called the dr and 2 days later it was removed on 2/8/07. Removal was not painful at all. When the dr questioned me on why I wanted the device removed I told him the story. Do you know what he said to me ? That these are not side effects of the Mirena. BULLSH.IT !! I see it as my body did everything it could to fight off this foreign object inside of me. That day he asked me when the last time i had an infection and I told him just on Monday that I was itching. So he took a culture and what a surprise I had a bacterial infection !! He told me once again that it was from my soap and not the IUD. Gave me a prescription for some vaginal gel. Which I didnt use and guess what ?? The itching and irriatation were gone ! 2 days later my mood returned to normal. I have not had clumps of hair come out in my hands. I can sleep 6-8 hours and feel great ! I can go from the living room to the kitchen and remember why I was going there ! 11 days after removal my sex drive returned full force ! DH is very happy. I am still dealing with the acne but its slowly going away. It seems to be like a cystic acne.

IUD Horror
HI,
I had a paraguard copper IUD placed in March 2007.I had it removed in 2 weeks. The insertion was extremely painful, I have 3 children and it felt like I was having labor pains the entire time of insertion and 10 days after. My pelvic area was sore, I developed a huge BV infection which I had to take medication for, I never stopped bleeding after insertion either. It was the most horrible experience ever.
When I went to the GYN I just said take it out and please give me something for this infection I have. When I asked what caused the infection he said he can not really say but it was not from the IUD (BULL).
I told him I did my own research and it is very likely that I could have gotten it from the IUD. He said there may be some underlying condition so he checked me for STD's, which were negative. Now I am going back on the pill. Oh this IUD is horrible and would caution anyone that is thinking of getting it. If you do get one if you have any side affects remove it as soon as possible....

Husband Response
Hello, My wife had a paragard inserted Feb 23rd 2007, It's been almost 2 months. She has never had a child, and the insertion as she describes was unbearable! She was sore and cramping for a week..Finally when she was ready for sex, it hurt both of us..I could feel the string and she was just sore and tender..She had the string cut, and it worked for me..But she has pains in certain positions, (Doggy) mostly- And has not been able to achieve an orgasm in Two Months! She was multiple orgasmic! It hurts her to tense up...
What a way to keep from getting pregnant! JEEZ-
We are going to have it removed this month, The doctors don't know what they are talking about, they totally miss these side effects..

iud painful
I tried to have an iud inserted yesterday. Tried. They numbed the area and gave me painkillers, and it was about the most intense pain I have ever felt in my life. They used a clamp on my cervix, which felt like the worst menstrual cramp ever, and then jammed a stick in to measure my uterus which cause me to back up across the table and yell, 'take it out!' Then she tells me that the iud implant device was bigger than the rod she used to measure. No thank you. She did tell me that some women have few nerves on their cervix and it doesn't feel very bad for them. I've also never had a kid, so I guess my cervix is smaller. Reading some of the other comments on this page makes me not feel so bad about not going through with it. I hear that some women love their iuds though.... so who knows.

Also having some trouble
I have used an IUD after the birth of my second son in 96 and had it removed when I wanted to pregnant again in 2001, I had another one inserted in 2002 after the birth of my daughter then had it taken out after it start moving inside me. I had another daughter in 2005 and had another IUD almost a year later in March 2006. I didn't have a period for almost a year, in January 2007, then again in April 2007. I have been experiencing some dizziness and hair loss and a nauseous feeling and have also had a few yeast infections in the past year, I recently start having strange cramps that I know are coming from my uterus or ovaries. I've also had a few yeast infections this past year since I've had this Mirena. I would like to have another baby next year so was planning to have it taken out in June or July but I think I will have it taken out earlier.

I hear ya
I am in the same situation. I keep getting BVs and the yeast infection. I have the copper IUD and I have never had a BV till I got this little devil. I have been talked out of it by my doctor not to get it removed but I can't take this anymore. It has been going on 2 years.I have been doing reacerch and it says people with IUDs get BVs, but my doctor said this is rare. Well I am living proff and it sound like you are too. Good luck cause I am getting this thing out!!!
