Default Depo nightmare..where should I go next?

I started taking the Depo-Provera shot back in the beginning of September 2009. It has been a complete nightmare for me. I have had non stop spotting and random periods since I started it. I already suffer from anxiety and it has intensified and I have had bouts of depression. . My moods have been erratic and unpredictable, and I don't feel like my usual self at all. The only side effect I haven't had is the weight gain everyone else seems to have! Go figure! It has been miserable. I was dumb and continued it and had my second shot in middle of November. I figured maybe my body would adjust, but it definitely hasn't.

My question is..I am due for my 3rd shot beginning of Feb, and I definitely want to switch birth controls. I'm not sure what to change to though. The reason I went with Depo was because I'm paranoid about missing pills. I liked the idea of not having to remember to take something everyday at the same time. I'm not looking to get pregnant and have no interest in having children at all (however my mom says I'll change my mind later ). What birth control would you suggest I consider? I've been thinking about the Mirena IUD? Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

That's probably a discussion you should have with you doctor! Only you and your Doctor really know your body and can make that decision.

There are other non-pill options out there, just check out some other threads on this forum about BC, There are TONS and you will get a lot of ideas of things that may work for you and could be brought up when you do speak with your doctor.

But the doctor will have the best information for you. Discuss with him/her the symptoms you've experiences with depo, and go over some other options that you have... including frequency of dosage, side effects, etc, etc...

On another note, I would call and make an appointment to discuss BC options BEFORE your next depo is due - that way you have a game plan for switching before it becomes a last minute decision, like it was for you in November. Good luck with whatever you decide! I know Depo has not worked for many women on this forum so you are not the only one out there looking for a non-pill form of BC!
