I don't have any kind of health insurance, which is okay since I am generally very healthy person. However, I have been thinking about BC lately and would really like to be on it for a few reasons. First, I can get really bad periods where I feel like I just want to die. And also, I do NOT want to get pregnant! We don't use condoms because my skin reacts to them so he has to pull out. It's not as fun and I'm afraid that one day he'll pull out too late.

Is there any place I can get BC without it costing an arm and a leg without having insurance??

Does a prescription for BC require a gyno exam?

    Yes.

Find a planned parenthood office. More than likely they will want you to have a full exam and pap, but that's a good thing anyways.

Or some Dr's give discounts for cash patients. Call up a Dr's office and tell them you don't have insurance, see what kind of deal they can work out for you.

Is planned parenthood cheaper than a regular doctor's office? I'm the typical broke college student!

Way, way, way cheaper! They will base the cost on your income. A lot of times it's just donation based. I think when I was a broke college student mine cost me about $4/month.

PP depends on your income. If you are low income or no income in the case of students it costs pretty much nothing. Their choice of pills and options for that situation are limited though. They didn't have any pills I could take without break through bleeding. Pretty much they only offered the safest low dose version like ortho tri cyclen lo or POPs (progesterone only pills) for low cost. Everything else I would have to fill at a pharmacy for typical cost. That works for some people but not me. The only thing I've found I can take is yasmin (which does finally have a generic but still probably not offered) or nuva rings.

Some PP clinics do occasionally offer free IUD insertion and then you are good for 5 or 10 years depending what you choose and so long as it works out. That's how I got my mirena IUD despite insurance refusing to pay but it didn't work for me.

There are a lot of free clinics out there. Some of the just ask for a donation.

You're a college student? I can't imagine why you, as a student, wouldn't have insurance through the school?

Otherwise, usually places on campus are catered toward student budgets.

I am a college student at a community college. They don't offer health insurance for the students. My parents and I have an extremely estranged relationship, so being on their insurance is a huge no. I'll probably have better luck in the student insurance once I get to a University.

I've never heard of a school offering insurance. There are medical facilities on all school campuses even small community colleges. They offer discounted basic meds and birth control. Although the staff usually has minimal training and cannot prescribe much. When my mom was in college she got bcp through the college. At that time few insurance companies would not pay for birth control. PP probably would still have better prices since they have more funding sources.

I have been to a couple community colleges and their insurance is about $90 a quarter. PP is cheaper. Also community colleges have counseling and such, however neither of the ones I went to had any medical facility (even though one of them is known for its health care programs) and neither of them had anyone able to prescribe prescriptions.
