I can't seem to find a birth control method that is right for me. I've been having severe bad luck with any form of protection.

First of all, I do use condoms and that seems to be the best option. But condoms aren't always affective. They say condoms are 99% affective but I've had the condom either break on me or fall off way too many times. Like maybe 1 out of 20 times the condom will break or fall off. I know I put them on correctly and my partner (and previous partners) have put on their fare share of condoms, but they always break or fall off. Even when we move slow or gentle and even during extremely quick sessions. I also constantly check the condom during sex to make sure its still on but it always seems to break at the moment of ejaculation. I've used all sorts of condoms and I even talked to a sex therapist/doctor (who is a friend of mine) about this issue. She asked me to put a condom on a dildo just cause she couldn't believe the condom breaks that often. She thought I was doing it wrong. But I showed her how I put the condom on and she says I'm definitely doing it correctly. But condoms have broke maybe over 100 times on me. Luckily, I used other forms of birth control pills and I never caught std's from new partners. But there has been times I wasn't on birth control and had to take the Plan B pill. I probably took Plan B 40-50 times in the past 5 years.

I am currently not on any form of birth control anymore and I'm afraid to have sex due to condom breakage and I have a fear that the Plan B could cause damage to my body.

I was on the birth control pill for 9 years and had no problem taking it. I took it every day and it always worked wonderfully. But for the past year, I've been having issues taking birth control pills now. After I take the pill, I get really sick and puke it up within 20 minutes of taking the pill. It used to never be like that. I never puked from Plan B but I even switched birth control pills and tried different brands but I always puke them up now and I feel sick for the rest of the day.

So I stopped taking them and my gyno suggested that I get on the shot and see how I like that. So I tried the shot and I just so happen to be one of the few people who has bad side effects from the shot. When I took the shot, I ended up gaining 50 lbs in the first two months. I didn't change my diet and I've always been naturally skinny. My skin started turning a yellowish color and I one time had to go to the hospital with shortness of breath. My gyno then told me to not take the shot and I didn't get it again after the 3rd month. Instead I switched to the ring.

I really didn't mind the ring. But it would constantly fall out during sex and sometimes during the day it would fall out and slip out my pant leg. lol, kinda embarrassing. I do stick it in all the way. As far as it could possibly go. Plus if it does stay in during sex, my boyfriend says it hurts him. He also doesn't want me to be on the ring because he doesn't trust it and while I was on the ring, it really killed the mood. I stopped taking that and went back on the pill, hoping for the best but the queasiness and puking didn't stop.

Now I'm not on any birth control but I have been taking spermacides and using condoms, hoping for the best. But my boyfriend and I haven't had sex in 3 months now. We have only been doing oral and tried anal one time. We have been together for five years and both of us don't mind doing only oral since we both actually like that more than sex and we do keep it interesting and try other kinks that we have. We just haven't had good 'ol fashioned sex. I was thinking about getting an iud (is that what its called)? but not sure if I'll want that plus I'd be afraid it would fall out too. I can't take the patch because its no longer available in my area. My gyno actually told me she doesn't know what else to say. Any suggestions or thoughts? Can anyone relate?

I have very similar issues with Birth Control. Well, with the pill I could never remember to take it daily, the NuvaRing gave me terrible headaches and I've always been scared of the shot because everyone that I know who takes it has gained massive weight and I am not trying to go there.

If you have one trusted partner, there is an alternative. The Vaginal Contraceptive Film (VCF) can be bought at any drug store (Walgreen, CVS, etc), it costs around $13.00 and comes in a pack of about 12. Its a little film that you fold and place in your vagina. It dissolves and is not felt by you or your partner. It is ready to go 15 minutes after putting it in and protects against pregnancy for up to 3 hours. This is something we can do on our own to protect ourselves from pregnancy. You may still want to use that condom to protect against STDs or HIV if you're not sure of the status of your partner of if you have more than one partner. But, I use these, no vaginal irritation, neither you or your partner feel it, it has no odor, its almost like its not there, only takes a minute to push it up there. Google it and go to their website - they'll send you a few free samples in the mail so you can try it and see what you think of it. Has worked great for me and I have no headaches and no weight gain and I only have to use it when I'm ready to have sex. I usually put it in an hour before my boy-toy gets to me just in case things move fast you don't have to hold off the fifteen minutes for it to be ready - remember it protects up to three hours! Oh yea, my boy-toy loves it too because he doesn't have to pull out and we both know no babies will result!!

If you're in a long-term monogamous relationship where both partners have been tested for STIs, then some doctors will consider an intrauterine device (IUD). There are two kinds, the Mirena (has hormones, last 5 years) and the ParaGard (no hormones, lasts 10 years). Both can be inserted if you've never had kids (though not ever doc is comfortable with putting 'me in you if you've never had kids) and both can be taken out at any time if they don't work out or you want to become pregnant. You seem to be sensitive to hormones, so maybe ParaGard would be a better fit. I have probably 10 friends with IUDs and they all love them. Just something to consider.

Regarding the condom thing...are you sure your partner(s) are wearing the right size? Are they putting new ones on if they lose their erections? Is there enough lubrication? Both loss of erection and wearing a condom that is too large can 'cause 'em to fall off. Lack of lubrication and wearing a condom that's too big can cause them to break. Also, remember that condoms are 99% effective only if used PERFECTLY. With average use (like, condoms falling off, etc.) they're only 85% effective. Something to consider, too.

One more thing, did you ever try taking your birth control pill at night, before bed? That can REALLY help with the nausea thing. Makes taking them tolerable for many women.
