    Question Stopping the pill

    Hi ladies,

I took my last pill of the pack today and do not plan on taking any more - I've tried 9 different pills in 3 years and all of them have side effects that I could do without (e.g. acne, SERIOUS mood swings - not fair on my boyfriend either!, migraines etc.) For the time being I'm happy to use condoms but eventually I imagine I'll want something a bit more permanent as condoms are hassle (especially in a long term relationship and we've both been checked out for STIs so theres no risk there) and they're expensive.

Can anybody recommend anything? Or have any of you come off the pill for the sake of your health? Thanks!!

Look into a non hormonal IUD, do some research and talk to your Dr about that being an option.

The Paragard IUD rocks. 99.8% effective, good for 10 years, no hormones. Many doctors will put them in if you've never been pregnant, you just have to ask around. The most commonly reported side effects are heavier periods and more cramping, but the women I know with 'em love 'em.

thanks ladies - will look into that! i think heavier periods etc. is a much better side effect than mood swings and basically turning into a complete once a month!! :P
