Unusual bleeding on the pill
Hi, I'm new around here and I was seeking a place i could go where I could discuss my um "issues" more privately. I've recently started birth control. Loestrin 24 Fe to be exact. After about a week of consistently I began to spot for 3 days, however that wasn't a huge issue. After the initial three days I started to bleed heavily. I know that it is common for some slight bleeding or spotting but I'm worried because I don't feel like I've ever been this heavy this long. Usually my period is only heavy for a day and mild-light for the rest. It has been consistently heavy for the past week and it doesn't seem like it's going to stop. I am only a few days away before I have to take my placebos.
I'm just worried that I'm going to have my period longer then a week and I don't know if that's good or not. Any advice, tips? Even if someone can relate that might ease my worry. I'm just really nervous and I really don't know where to turn.
Other then that, I have little to no side effects.
FYI: I am only in my first month of the pill and I have not forgotten to taken the pill once and I have taken it the same time every day.
You can expect some haywire cycles for a good few months. If you are not somewhat regular after about 3-4 months, I'd go back into the Dr. Other than that, honestly, it's pretty common. Of course, if you get too worried about it, call your Dr's office and at least talk to a nurse.

That's a really good point. For, at the very least, the first month you're on the Pill, do not assume it's working. You may still ovulate. Please use barrier protection (condoms, diaphragm, etc. with or without spermicide).
Ok that's good to know. I appreciate the advice. I was wondering now, I read somewhere that I may be experiencing these break through bleedings because I may not be metabolizing the hormones well enough. Do you think if I chew my tablets instead, would that help?
Give the pills a few months. Your body has to adjust to them. I took Loestrin for a couple of years - just recently went off - and it took my body a bit to adjust as well. I'm not sure if I'd chew the pill however, I'd just swallow it whole. I know there is a birth control pill you -can- chew, but I'm not sure if it's okay to crush/chew Loestrin. Ask your gyno, or perhaps someone here knows.
