Default Switching from shot to pill; question

I had a quick question. So I'm getting off Depo after 3 years (I had NO problems on it, I'm getting off it for other reasons). My doctor however, refuses to put me on any birth control until my period ...starts up again. (Something about seeing how long it takes me to be fertile again) Note: I'm 19. I don't plan on having kids anywhere in the next 7ish years. He wants me to wait because he feels that's what you should do. My first doctor who originally put me on the shot, didn't have this view. So, the fertile or not thing doesn't really bother me right now. However, I do NOT want to not be on birth control. I am sexually active and while we use condoms, I don't feel safe without birth control. Is there a way I can have my doctor put me on the pill, should I switch doctors, should I go to the health clinic in town, or what should I do?
I want to get off the shot and start seasonique.
    Thank you.
Any info or advice would be appreciated

p.s. Please don't just focus on the fact I was on the shot, I've had 0 issues being on it and I actually loved the shot. I just want to know about a way to get on the pill despite my doctor's view on it. Thank you.

Some Dr's can't get passed their personal view points. If you feel strongly about this, at least seek another Dr's opinion, go to a local Planned Parenthood or something. I personally don't see why you wouldn't be able to go to the pill immediately after you last shot was up.

Thank you for commenting so quickly.
I was planning on making another appt. with my doctor and see if I can convince him.
Otherwise, I'm going to make a trip to the planned parent hood in town. =]
