I have been on Yaz since the beginning of the year for my abnormally long and heavy periods. The first month I started my period on the third day of my inactive pills, and it lasted for seven days. The second month I had my period for five days that started on the third day of my inactive pills. Now I took my last inactive pill last night and I have yet to get my period. I will take my first active pill of the fourth pack tonight. Why haven't I gotten my period yet? Is this normal? Could I be pregnant? I have had sex once since my last period. What are all the possible problems and what do you think it most likely the cause? Please reply quickly.

    Thanks.

    Hi Summer16,

Though I'm not a doctor, this is what I'd do. Did you skip your withdrawal bleed in the month that you had sex? Essentially a period on the pill isn't a true period, but it's common to skip a month or two while on the pill and not be pregnant. Did you miss any active pills last month? If you didn't miss any pills and took them pretty much within 1-3 hours every day then your chance of pregnancy is pretty low. (.01%).

Though missing one period on the pill is common, if you miss it next month then you should take a hpt test to rule out pregnancy. If this previous month was the month you had sex then I'd get a hpt and see. It should be reliable as this is the time of your 'expected period.' Pills do not influence the HCG hormone found in pregnancy and thus will not interfere with the hpt. Though some women do implant after their expected period date. If it comes back negative, I'd wait a week and do another one. I'd usually wait 2-3 weeks after having sex before taking a test anyways just for my own sanity, even if I'm a perfect pill user because of the "nothing is 100% safe except not having sex."

If you miss your withdrawal period next month, and have a negative pregnancy test this month, I'd talk to a doctor to see what's going on. They might want to do another hpt test or get a blood test done to rule out pregnancy. Hope this has helped.
