    Question no strings

My doctor hasn't been able to feel the strings for the past year, and now I'm getting worried. I think I'll go for an ultrasound next time I go in. But I'm wondering...I just read an article that said that anyone who has had an iud is at an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy...has anyone heard this before? I've been considering one more child, but I have a friend who has had a few ectopics, so this gives me some pause. Any advice would be most appreciated! Thanks.

    Default ugh. mirena.

i've had my iud for almost 2 years. at my last pap the dr. said he could see the string and that everything looked good. then, the other day i asked the dr. (different one) to check the string because my period has been missing (i was just returning to regular cycle after bleeding for a year straight). she took a look and couldn't find the string. now i'm being sent for an ultrasound. fun times. thought the mirena was a good idea, but it's been nothing but a nightmare. i'm contemplating having mine removed. i keep thinking great. what if. **rolls eyes**

So I just got an paragard placed in on tuesday and am reading this and beginning to worry now because I'm not gonna lie I honestly don't really know squat about the iud my doctor just decided it was the best thing to do and I've always trusted her judgement...just out of curiosity...is there anyway that you can personally check if the strings are still there or do you have to go to the doctors?

o.k the last few posts really bother me.

    first off,
patty782 you said your doctor hasn't been able to feel the strings. Red flag! For a whole year? and you are now getting worried? Listen ladies, you can do your own check for your strings. I do every month.

ladyface: you too c'mon. How long have you had your iud? Iuds don't get you fatter and they don't frie your brain, I"m assuming you had a Mirena cause that is the only one with hormones. But, you may have the ParaGard which is the one that does not have hormones. You weren't very specific.

glorious: YOu bleed for a whole year? That should have been a red flag for you too.

IUDs do work they just don't work for EVERYONE!

erobins: post like the ones above are soo uninformative and so vague and scare women.

Please inform yourself about IUDs. The risks invovled and the benefits too.

I have have ParaGard for 5months. I have absolutely have no problems with it. NO CRAMPS NO PAIN EVER with it. (fingers crossed) Periods are a few days longer, but expected.

so i had the iud put in back in december. i checked for the strings periodically and they were always there. i wasn't sexually active so no worries about pregnancy. i spotted a lot and never lost my period as most people. my skin kept getting more oily, and acne became a problem. within the past 2 months i became sexually active and bled A LOT during. this has never happened in my history. never. i was having some weird symptoms so i went to the gyno 2 weeks ago and all was clear. yesterday and today after having sex, with NO bleeding (which was kind of a relief at first), i noticed my lower abdomen felt odd. kind of like being constipated but different. i checked for the strings this evening just to make sure, and they're not there!!! i have no clue what to do. i've been reading the posts about people who've had to have it surgically removed and that the insurance won't cover it. i'm terrified that is going to happen to me as i'm a young student and definitely cannot afford hefty medical bills.

i got the iud because 2 of my friends had had it for over a year with no problems and i could never remember to take my pill consistently. now i'm wishing i hadn't gotten it. lets hope the doc can find it this week.

Default Mirena IUD is a nightmare

I had my Merina IUD inserted in June 2009. My reason was not only birth control, but also to get very painful heavy periods under control. Well, firstly my Gyn inserted it after my period and it was extremely painful, afterwards for about two days I had an extreme amount of pain, then I bled for months on and off. My period stopped with spotting now and again but every month I still got Period pains and PMS just no bleeding. I was planning to get it removed next year as I want a baby (It will be my first), however in the last three weeks I have been having all pregnancy symptons, sore swollen boobs, tired, nausia, vomiting, skin breakouts, lower back pain. I took a home urine test and it was negative, but the symptoms got worse, so two days after the test I went to see my gyn today - I told him I thought I was pregnant, he did a vaginal ultrasound and discovered firstly, my strings are missing, the Mirena is still in place, and I have a massive 6cm cyst on my left ovary which was caused by the Hormones in the Merina - I am very disapointed, sad and irritated with this whole thing, I too don't have insurance, now I have to go into hospital in two days to have both the cyst and the Mirena removed and I had to go to hospital today to have blood tests because the cyst is so big they can't tell for sure that I'm not pregnant, an absolute nightmare. I can't wait to get rid!!

I would NEVER EVER Suggest this IUD to anyone - Weight Gain, bad skin and feeling pregnant all the time, it's just not worth it!!!

Recently got an IUS about 6months ago.. not only was it the worst pain i have ever experienced in my life.. its just been the most troublesome thing ever! i dont know how i thought i could go and get my Merena fitted, then prance into work straight after.. not the case! But it has made my vagina so sensitive, if i dont have thrush, ive got BV.. such a nightmare.. i went for a checkup today thinking i had BV.. because i get puddles of discharge, changing my knickers 4 times a day, and bathing like 3.. its just beyond ridiculous, and the smell, lets not even go there. So anyway, went for my check up, and two nurses and one doctor, cannot locate my merena!! which explains why all these problems, i dont have BV, just my merena is in the wrong place!.. so a tad bit worried now!! eek..!!

This morning I went to get my Iud removed after having it for four months. I have gained almost twenty pounds after having it inserted and am sure that mierana is the cause. My doctor couldn't find my strings so I had an ultrasound done. The iud is in place fine but I want it out! The doctor tried for what seemed like forever to get it out but was unsuccessful. I was told I will need to have surgery to remove it. I'm waiting for a call for the doctor's office to see if my insurance will cover the surgery. I am regretting every getting this iud! Worst decision I have ever made!

I got my IUD inserted July 22, 2011 so it's been about more than 3 months. I've been checking every week and the tiny string was still there ( my doctor said she cut it a bit short so my boyfriend wouldn't feel it). It was still there after sex and everything. However, today when i tried checking for it, it was gone! Should i wait it out a couple of days to see what will happen? Since ive read around and learned that my cervix will change during period... however, the problem is.. i haven't gotten my period for about 2 months. Mirena works wonder for me when it comes to cramps and period.. I "THINK" i was supposed to have it a couple of days ago due to cramps but no blood came out. I also took the pregnancy test a couple of times and the results were negative. What should i do? Also, i recently just had sex 3 days ago and i think he penetrated pretty deep, could this be the cause? ( Not too sure about this "hypothesis" because i always check my strings after sex and it would always be there )

Also... if it happen to be lost ... and i have to get surgery.. will Planned Parenthood cover that?
